The importance of having a good neighbor or neighbors is underrated. We do not know how important it is to have a good neighbor or good neighbors. Having a neighbor who isn’t noisy or quarrelsome, who respects boundaries, and who gives you nothing but absolute peace is priceless.
How is your relationship with your neighbors? Do they bring your peace or it’s the other way round and if you had the chance to change them, would you?
A good neighbor equals peace of mind while a bad neighbor equals war and chaos, what type of neighbor do you have?😃
Before I move into any neighborhood I always pray to have good neighbors because I do not have the energy to fight or quarrel with anyone nor do I ever want to feel uneasy when in my apartment because of a troublesome neighbor. The economy and everything happening in the world is overwhelming already adding a bad neighbor to the mix would be a different ball game and I am sure as hell not ready for any drama whatsoever.
I can be a loner sometimes and I can decide to interact with people other times, but this is determined by how I feel.
Moving to my apartment two years ago I decided to be on my own, mind my business and I didn’t want anyone to be in my space neither did I want to be in their spaces. My decision stemmed from hearing and seeing neighbors fight one another and some even go spiritually just to deal with their opponents. This was one path I wasn’t willing to tour so the best I could do was exchange pleasantries and comply with the compound rules to avoid having altercations with anyone.
I didn’t have any of my neighbor's numbers till almost a year, it was so serious that one of my neighbors had to summon me one day and have a heart-to-heart talk with me.
My neighbor communicated her worries to me and I was touched. I was only living my life and trying to stay clear of trouble but some of them thought I was a snub. She was concerned about my well-being as I didn’t have any rapport with anyone in the compound and I didn’t even know some of their faces. In her words “IB what if something bad happens to you one day? Who can you call in the compound to come to your aid?” Then it dawned on me that I was all alone in the compound and I needed to change.
I got to know a few of my neighbors and I discovered they weren’t as bad as I thought. I talk to three of them but I am very close to my next-door neighbor. Knowing him has been a blessing as he has come to my aid so many times that I can count.
Taking a look at the number of times he has come through for me I can’t help but be grateful. Getting to know him has been nothing short of amazing as it feels good to have someone who has your back in your neighborhood.
I got to learn a lot from most of my neighbors. You can’t judge people from afar neither can you be all alone in your own space as we all need people once in a while in our lives and nobody is truly an island.
Staying in this neighborhood with my neighbors has been utterly peaceful as we all respect boundaries and so far it’s been working for us and if given the opportunity to choose them again as my neighbors I will choose them without batting an eyelash😃
