Social media is an advancement that technology has bring to the society, there's a saying that “everything that has an advantage must surely have it's disadvantages”, so is the effect of technology on society. Social media has it prons and cons which has some positive and negative effect on the society.
But the question is, SHOULD SOCIAL MEDIA BE BANNED OR SCRABBED, what are the benefits of banning social media? will it affect us negatively? How much as it been affecting younger generations?
These are questions that will determine if truly the benefits of social are much more compared to it's side effect.
Age by age, social media has always been in existence but there has been diversity in the innovation, I could remember sometimes ago when 2go and facebook were the main social media platform being used in Nigeria, as times goes on alot of social media platform had emerge which has led to changes in the lifestyle of people.
People do alot of things on social media just to get the attention they need, they do not care if the content they post are educative or mind destructive, all they ever care is to get followers and attention with monetary benefits.
The fact that it can link countless number of users is a very good advantage added to the society, we can as well communicate to people around the world at the comfort of our home. But nevertheless it has also lead to demise and destruction of souls all in the name of getting to know someone better. Lots of people's life has been cut short from trying to connect with strangers they meet online which is so disheartening.
Furthermore, it is also a means of information sharing, we can get to know what's happening in other countries and continentwith just connection to network or wi-fi, yeah! it's a good thing but don't forget the implication of fake news and information, it is very easy to spread fake news by just creating an interesting blog with a photoshoped picture.
Not to mention other importance like marketing and advertising, building brands, business promotion ans son, not to mention the financial earnings.
These things surely comes with a sacrifice, and what do I mean by that, I mean something that would attract people to your page or blog more, which is manipulation, that's where take like begins. To gain followers it's either you're extraordinary at what you do or you post abnormal things. Lots of people gets popular with petty things someone could think of.
In Nigeria it's now a norms for people to do crazy things all in the name of becoming a celeb, we don't know who is truly, and whereas there are people who post good stuffs but are actually irresponsible and bad people. The debate is actually interwoven, judging people with their social media content might not be good and likewisely vice versa.
