With the little I know about life, I can say it is a complex blend of stuff - real stuff. From my observations so far, no one, no matter how experienced can tell in full what life in its entirety means - everyone is still learning. That's why we still make mistakes, hurt people or even overreact to situations.
Life sometimes happen to us even with great plans. There are things we just can't have control over. When I came across this topic as one of our weekly prompt, I was thinking a lot of things. It was difficult for me to come to a conclusion what lessons life has taught me as a young adult.
My transition from childhood to adulthood is not without little mistakes and a blend of regrets at different periods. I lived on my level of understanding based on what I was taught, and things I learnt by observation. Some were pleasant and some sore.
Let's run through my own lessons from life's dealings:
The first lesson I have learnt is to live a day at a time, no matter what life throws at me. I would have to live out every moment with a sense of intentionality and responsibility if I must appreciate life better. There were times when I would be so focused on the future that I forget to live in the present. One bad thing about this is that one would continue living in a sphere that never existed. The future until death is unending, meaning you'll finally realize you never lived a fulfilled life.
I learnt that today is the future I looked forward to yesterday, and tomorrow is the future I seek today. So, everyday is the future we all talk about, meaning I have always lived in the future all along. I just must take everything bit by bit, step by step, and thought by thought.
The Time Game:
I see time as life on a duration scale. Everything we do is summarized and expressed as a function of time.
I have come to learn that time doesn't change anything. Time only reveals what we put in to life. We effect the change we desire and time gives us the score of our efforts. That is why I go with the idea that time is pregnant with the possibilities of our actions and inactions alike. While growing, as a child I wasted time on some frivolous acts which has expressed itself as scars, some of which I feel sorry about. Time indeed is a precious asset to man, in fact the most precious which everyone must take advantage of to create a good life. It waits for no man, yet it is constant - it is a cycle, that no man can alter. Every day that passes by draws us away from time. We are the ones going away, not time fading out.
Everyone Matters:
Before now I used to think some persons aren't as important as others. Now, I realize that the word "importance" is relative and is to different people different things. An individual not being helpful to me doesn't rule out his importance to someone else who may have benefited in a way I am not conversant with.
I learnt this the hard way. For me to explore the benefits of of association, I just must treat everyone with respect and dignity, knowing that no person can survive alone without his fellow human beings contributing one way or the other in his/her life.
No human is useless. Most of the time, I have received great help from people I least expected. With that my mentality changed.
Honestly, life has always had a way of giving every man a dose of what it holds. I has a way of humbling us.
