Love at First Kick: My Irresistible Encounter with Sport Journalism

It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon and I had a training session to attend. I quickly grabbed my backpack and put inside all the things I can't do without, of course my lipgloss, bottle filled with water , jotting notes , pen and most importantly my charger as it rained heavily the last night and it's believed the electric wires required to be dried for as long as the people in charge wants. This is a very common belief to everyone around the Southwest part of my country, Nigeria.

I put on my second eyes and walked out of the room with my flowing gown dancing around my little body.
It took about two minutes before I got to the park and the maruwa zoomed off as if they were expecting my grand entrance. I alighted at the most beautiful part of the school and I entered one of the halls, 'oh! I came too early', I said to myself as no one was there.
At this moment, my phone was already on 3% and I was expecting it to make the usual vibration anytime. I was busy staring at my phone and hoping it wouldn't go off soon because it would be very boring, then the President came in. 'Thank God , I'm not alone now', I mumbled to myself.
Couple of minutes later, almost everyone were present and the training session kick started. It was all about Sport Journalism. Like a released tensioned spring, my phone vibrated and went off.
The trainer started his speech by introducing himself as the sport director for the Student Union in my school and he proceeded.

He said ; journalism is a profession or activities of written an article for a website or newspaper and it is limited to sport only. He proceeded that sport commentary is a spoken description of a life event that is being broadcast as the event is happening.
Here, the light was restored and I tried all the socket around to plug the dead phone but none worked. I shamelessly walked back to the seat and listened to the trainer even though I wanted to press my phone so bad.

At this point I had to choice but to listen to the trainer and when I did, I realized he was making a lot of senses.
I got lost in his words as I was able to relate to the discussion as I watched the last AFCON Match. He said the commentator saying how the games were being played are called the play by play commentator. He said they are are required to have a very vast knowledge all the players in the game and possess adequate knowledge of the game. And have the ability to keenly watch the game.
He also stated he rest of journalism in sport and are the color commentator, sideline reporters, columnist or optimum writer, sport caster, video analyst and social media coordinator.
Furthermore, he mentioned the skills required in the profession, the educational requirements, roles, challenges and opportunities.

It was a very beautiful and amazing session with him and I felt like starting a sport journalism career.
