Hello beautiful soul. Yes, I am referring to you. I really want to seize this opportunity to say thank you for always visiting my blog. It's such an encouragement to do more and I sure not going to disappoint.
Now, back to this fascinating topic. "THAT ONE SKILL" . Choosing a skill was one of the biggest choice I had to make while growing up. Infact, I found myself good at almost everything as a child, to the amazement of many. I began to make some stitches with the sawing machine when I was eight and before my final year in highschool, I had started breading hair - using most of my classmates as my models. But saddle, I was never given a chance to undergo appropriate training and gaining professionalism in any of this skills. Mum was also more concerned about my formal education so. I must always come out with excellent grades. That was her priority!
I had lost my father when I was just three months so, I don't know if Dad would have agreed to my decision of acquiring any skill. I only had to keep battling with mum and my battles all were loosed ones.
As I kept growing, my passion grow along. I fell in love with music and was all out to learn any musical instrument but I've got to always go to school and not joke with my studies. Mum monitored my every move. I had to always sneak out of the house to go for rehearsals. That's why I know how to play something a little bit meaningful with the keyboard, saxophone and even the drums.
Unfortunately, I never perfected my training in any of the musical instruments too. I had to be good at something else, not just academics and what could this be?
Soon, began college. With this development, I lost hopes on getting any skills and began to focus on getting a certified. I was in a Teacher Training College and was sure going to be a teacher so, I had to be excellent. As a student of English, I began to write. I will always write my daily experiences in school, I also began to write short stories, poems and plays.
Never did it occur to me that I was beginning to do well in writing until I was commended in church over a drama I scripted. Wow! I was overjoyed when the drama director mentioned that I script was really excellent.
My next accolades was from our neighbour who jokingly asked me to write a speech for him cause he had a function he was to be the chairman. To my dismay, when he returned from the function, he gave me a token of Five Hundred Naira for helping him with the writing. So, writing pays? I never knew.
From the on, I make use of every opportunity to write down something and since I had nowhere else to post some of my writings, I will always make a weekly post on Facebook. Fortunately, that attracted my correct boss. I write for him and he pays me per word. Isn't that amazing?
Right now, I can bite me hand on my chest to say that I have a skill and it's paying too. I am still learning the act of writing cause I am looking forward to making the most of this skills I have discovered in me. Fortunately, I do not have to pay for it nor do I have to sneak out to learn it either. I only have to keep developing myself and I am doing just that.
Hey world, I've got a skill now and am ready to take it to the next level. Who is ready to ride with me?
My name is @mharvis and I write.
