In life, everything is important, and sometimes it may not be. In preschool times, the cane is something our teacher really thought was right to correct us. Yes, it's true.
And that was for the students who didn't obey the school rules and regulations. So the teachers tried to use the same measure for all children, so there would be no cheating or favoritism among the students.
The cane is the language most students love the most because their bodies have adapted to it, especially those who have a big stature.
In my preschool times, I attended Muslim College, a very popular school in Ekiti State. Though people said it was for Islamic people, I can proudly say there were more Christians than Muslims in the school.
In my school, we dealt with law and strict teachers. You were forced to obey the rules and regulations of the school. The first rule for all students was coming to school before 7:20 am. I usually woke up at 5 o'clock in the morning, so I was not late to school. But sometimes when I woke up late, I would surely get beaten by the seniors or teachers or have to clean the school surroundings.
The second rule was the students' hairstyle. In my school, we had to cut our hair in a normal and moderate style, like a low cut or something similar. This was only enforced when we were still in junior levels. When I was promoted to junior secondary three, I started cutting my hair in styles like Obama styles, afro, and three steps. Although the teachers wouldn't say anything immediately, when the hair grew too long, they would warn us. If we didn't get it cut, they would take action. They would summon an assembly for no reason, pick those with bad haircuts and long hair, and cut their hair with scissors or a blade with combs. The funny part was, the teachers would cut the hair in an abnormal way to show the juniors, especially if they were in senior classes.
And also, neatness was important. In my school, all students had the same pair of sandals called shaba. This name was given to the sandals by the students. Before you got admission to our school, it was already written on the admission letter. If you wore another pair of sandals, it was not allowed.
And lastly, no matter how you dressed, either neat or dirty, you would surely be beaten either for joint accusations or personal ones. When you entered the teachers' room, there was no way you wouldn't be flogged or accused. I remember when I entered my teacher's office to submit my notes. Immediately upon entering, one of the teachers said, "You can't greet, can you?" Immediately, I prostrated to greet her. Suddenly she rose up and said, "Look at how you wear your shirt polo." As I was trying to adjust my polo, within a blink of an eye, I had already received two lashes of the cane.
Since that day, I truly believe that even if you don't do anything wrong, our school teachers will find an excuse to beat you, which means you can't be perfect in the school. So the cane is what I think our teachers can use to correct us, and that is what they really believe in.
But for those schools that practice a no-cane policy, in my opinion, they are trying to protect their business. This is the type of school where you will see different kinds of bad characters among the students.
