We descended a further 1,000 metres, eager to discover the secrets the earth held.
The infrared camera focused on something terrifying: a hellish creature with bulging eyes, a flat nose and a maw full of fangs.
It emanated a searing heat, as if from hell itself.
The beast stared at us, making sure of our presence. Suddenly, the earth shook and a deafening shriek ripped through our minds.
We were paralysed, unable to process what we had witnessed.
Nearby villagers rushed forward, terrified by the bloodcurdling roar. It took hours to retrieve the melted camera, close the well and flee with no evidence except a photo that the authorities confiscated.
Since then, one by one we have perished in strange circumstances. Only I am left alive, and I have mere months left.
But I must warn you: hell is real and we have disturbed it with our daring.
The maw of the underworld opened before us and its guardian let out a primal scream that has marked our fateful destiny.
We should have listened to the ancient chants that warn: ‘Do not awaken the evil one who lies beneath the earth’.
