Red Horizon
Not everyone is an artist. I'm certainly not the traditional kind who excel in drawing, painting, or sculpting. What I feel I do excel at is digital art. Mixed media art I prefer to name it. By creating mixed media art projects, I can explore different type art, then combine them to design awesome projects. Below is one of my recent newbie attempts at animation.
With only four amazing pure fractals and a diffusion image, I created the kaleidoscope project below. Bursting with beauty, the theme of my project focused on the vibrant crimson background with a facial expression in the foreground.
STEP 1:
I love creating Fractals. A Fractal is a visual representation of a complex mathematical equation in infinite loop iterations. The free, open-sourced advanced fractal rendering program, Apophysis 7X, creates visually-appealing and detailed fractals. With the Transforms utilizing variations and variables, I was able to design the four fractals below.
I then utilized Canva, my design program, to blend the images for the fractal project. To a blank, white canvas, I added all four fractals; duplicated, removed backgrounds where needed, then resized and repositioned them. The resulting fractal design, which turned our beautifully, will be used in the initial animation project as the background.
Step 2:
For the facial feature, I utilized StarryAI, one of my favorite stable diffusion programs. I was pleased with how the program handled the prompt portraying the man's face in broken glass. I envisioned using this image as a still version in the scene.
StarryAI Text Input:
"Man broken from the inside, dark art, broken glass, detailed, realistic watercolor art in the style of Conrad Roset and Paolo Roversi,"
Style: Fantasy
Step 3:
I bit of a diversion because I wanted a still version of the face and fractal project in case I decided to mint an NFT on NFTShowroom. I returned to Canva and uploaded the stable diffusion image to blend it with the fractal project. Below is the result I'll save for later.
Step 4:
Let's get back to the animation process. Now the fun part. I wanted a video for the background only as I felt adding the face beforehand would clutter the kaleidoscope. To create the fractal video, I uploaded the still fractal project from above into Deep Dream Generator. This program's newest feature is video creation.
Deep Dream Generator
The iteration is short, only 5 seconds, but that was sufficient. Below is my result, which turned out nicely using the RUNWAY style:
Step 5:
Finally, I again returned to Canva to upload the fractal project video and add it the diffusion image. I resized and positioned the image in the center so that the kaleidoscope could capture the face, expose the eyes, then burst outward.
Once completed, I downloaded the project this time as a GIF since PeakD won't allow MP4 videos. Even with the GIF image, I had to ensure that the size was within the parameters PeakD would accept (less than 25 MB).
My completed Red Horizon video mixed media art project. I'll keep practicing. Thanks for your visit.
