Knowing what you want is the first step toward getting it. One half of knowing what you want is, knowing what you must give up before you get it. If you don’t know what you want to do, it’s harder to do it. There’s nothing wrong in knowing what you want and going after it.
During my most unhappy time as a young man who just came out of secondary school, I was completely confused as to what I wanted. I knew I longed to be in the university. That was simple to imagine or think about, but then how do I start? What is the next step? Who do I go to for advice? Should I pick jamb form? If I should sit for this exam will I come out successfully? What if I didn’t gain admission? Who will be responsible for my school fees? All these questions where going through my little mind without someone providing me with the right answers. I was completely in a state of dilemma.
Despite all the itching questions that was yet to be answered, this young man was not ready to stay at home without doing anything. I want to further my education, but how can I, when I don’t have someone to provide the right answers to all my questions? Well, I can’t allow all this questions going through my mind to tie me down and hinder me from achieving my dreams.
Knowing what I wanted, I took the first step by picking jamb form, sat for the exam, God helped me I gained admission to study Estate Management at Enugu State University Of Science And Technology, Currently in Five Hundred Level. It’s like yesterday that I heard my mum saying, my daughter you cannot enter the university this year wait till next year, what? Mum why do you say that? Her reasons was that, next year things will be better, after much argument, she still did not believe in me and said that I should not accept the admission. (tears already dropping from my eyes) then in tears I told her. “mum remember that if you want to build a house you must not wait until you have all the money and the materials you need to finish the house first before you start the foundation, but you have to start with the little amount you have first, though with proper planning.
It was as if the whole world is against my progress because I was not getting the support and encouragement I expected at that time, but despite everything I didn’t give up because I know what I wanted, and believed that with God all things are possible.
Right now, I don’t know what you’re facing or going through but I want to let you know that if you know what you want in this life you won’t allow what people are saying to you or that situation that is so terrifying to you to tie you down in that corner, and that little discouraging voice to keep telling you that nothing good can ever come out of you, but you will come out and go after your dreams.
