When it comes to receiving gifts from loved ones, I think I count myself lucky that I have people around me who care enough to sometimes make me smile with gifts.
While some gifts might not have left long-lasting memories with me, some have come to stay, and anytime I remembered them, I felt grateful to those people who God has put in my part to show me such an amount of love through gifts.
What makes a gift so special and memorable to me? Well, it doesn't have to be the most expensive thing in the world, but the intention of the person giving it and how valuable the item is to me at that moment. Sometimes it can be simple stuff that comes from someone's heart and a smile on his or her face. Or an act of service from someone that truly cares.
One of those memorable gifts I have received in the past was from my older sister. The thing is, I never expected it from her, and how valuable the item was that time made me never to forget her gesture.
During my semi-final year in school, I came to spend my holiday at her house one certain time, and throughout my stay I was always talking about how badly I needed a laptop for my school project. I wasn't saying it so she could get me a laptop because I never knew she could afford one; I was only whining and wishing for one for my school project. And guess what? I got what I wished for 😊
On the day of my return to school, while I was arranging my traveling bag, I discovered it was unusually heavy when I lifted it up, and by the time I opened it, what I saw inside left me speechless when unramped.
It was a brand new Windows 8 HP laptop 💻 well ramped on top of my clothes. My sister told me she had planned to buy it for her personal use initially, but she thought I needed it the most, hence she is giving it to me. I was so happy and thankful to her, as that was just what I needed the most that moment, and for her to sacrifice her use of the laptop for me means so much to me.
It wasn't just any gift from her, but it was valuable to me, and at the same time I cherished that when I complained about what I needed, she listened and went all her way to make sure I had it, because she knew just how badly I needed it.
That day, I told her how much her sacrifice means to me; she only smiled and said she was glad she could afford what I needed, and those words have a special place in my heart forever.
The laptop made my school project a lot easier and cheaper for me and still served me for some years after graduation; not only that, it was of great help to some of my schoolmates who needed a laptop for their project analysis.
Thank you so much for reading my story of one memorable gift❣️
