On September 21, 2024, the Sri Lankan Presidential Election took place. During this historic election, Anura Kumara Dissanayake from the National People's Power (NPP) coalition was elected as the 9th Executive President of Sri Lanka. This marks a significant day for the country, as he won by surpassing the two main political parties. This victory is a critical turning point for Sri Lankan political and social culture for many reasons. I, too, wholeheartedly supported Anura Kumara Dissanayake and the NPP in this election.

The NPP's theme song was simple yet became immensely popular among Sri Lankans. This time, both major political parties were rejected by the people, marking a significant shift in the political landscape. The reason for this rejection was the people's decision to break away from traditional party loyalties and choose a leader from a middle-class family. For 76 years, power had been circulated among four families, but the 2024 election signaled a decisive move away from this pattern.

This historic moment reflected a growing desire for change, as Sri Lankans sought leadership that resonated with their struggles and aspirations. The NPP's message, encapsulated in their theme song, struck a chord with the masses and became symbolic of this transformation.

In 2022, the Sri Lankan people made it clear, after a long time, that they were no longer puppets of politicians. At that moment, we had become a nation in complete crisis, even bankrupt. But was it truly the fault of the people? This corrupt group led us to that point through long-term plans mixed with short-term foolishness. I believe that within five years, this leader will bring the country to a better state. Already, within just a week of his leadership, there have been significant changes in tax policies and various other reforms in the country.
