Relearning How to Communicate

As I continue to move and find my place in the world, I enjoy learning new things, building new things, and strive to keep moving forward. While I believe progress is important to maintaining a fulfilling life, I have been reminded that looking backwards to remember how to communicate is a skill that I must refine.

To give some context, I started something called “Knowledge to Earn” in The City of Neoxian Market Chat. In The City of Neoxian, I humbly serve as their Market Chat Analyst. The birth of the Market Chat in The City of Neoxian was on April 2, 2023. I asked Mr. Dragon to create it and I am very gracious that he accepted. Its creation was inspired by a conversation him and I had in the PIZZA Discord Market Chat. I joined the PIZZA discord around February 2, 2022…woah… time sure does fly, especially when you are having fun!

While developing “Knowledge to Earn” some of the feedback I have gotten is that the questions which I think are “easy” can actually be pretty “difficult.” I am not trying to say I am the smartest guy in the room; but, I have forgotten that a lot of what I learned over the years is not common knowledge.

This gives me a new but also unending task; to be able to communicate about things I know well but are also not common knowledge. Not everyone is an expert in the things I like to study; when I speak to people in terms they do not understand, that is on me and I need to fix it.

So you may have realized, the big challenge I face as I continue to learn new things is, I will always need to refine how I communicate. I have come to realize specialization is good for productivity but can be a negative when it comes to communicating. Communicating "as an expert" can be damaging when trying to share knowledge to others who may not understand. It is not my intention to make people feel bad if I am overly educated on a particular topic. I only want to teach what I know to others and just maybe, they can teach me some things too. This is a win win and part of my larger pursuit towards creating more mutually beneficial exchanges on the Hive blockchain.

If I ever talk in terms you don’t understand, or I say something that is confusing, please tell me. I do not want to be an “expert” and I do not want to be the only person I can talk to....let’s be real, that sounds pretty lonely!

Yea, there is a level of knowledge, there are some things you will see as common and easy while to others sounds/seems to be complex, good you are ready to break it down cos not everyone is willing to do that and this is why most people just pretend they understand

I really do appreciate the feedback man! I have learned quite a bit about myself sense joining Hive. Learning how to share knowledge is important if I want to share knowledge. This is my new path and I am excited for the adventure! 😀

Great that you started this channel on the Neoxian Discord - official congratulations.
You are right about communication. It need to be clear and fit for the audience. When the level of knowledge for the audience varies - it becomes challenging. Great that you recognise that but are up for the challenge. Yes - it is a lonely place if what is being communicated is not understood because then there is no value-added feedback and learning.

Absolutely! When I was young I always wanted to be considered smart or an expert. But I have come to realize most things do have a cost and being highly knowledgeable on any specific thing has its own challenges.

I am up for the challenge but also it is a journey; it will never be "complete" because the road continues as long as I keep learning.
