The long ride Home

Today is D-day, the day I finally go home to spend the Christmas holiday with my family as it has been three years since I last saw them. For a city that isn’t so far from where I stay I’ve been a bad daughter but I was willing to change this Christmas.

“Prodigal daughter, hope you’re on your way already” My sister's text popped on my screen and I couldn’t help but laugh and for someone that didn’t back down from a fight I replied.

“I’m about to come take all of your inheritance and squander them, just hang in there”. Feeling satisfied with my reply I smiled.

My sister replied with a laughing emoji and I knew for a fact that I had won the battle already.

Dropping my phone I quickly made my way to the salon for my nail appointment, who even have a nail appointment on the day she was supposed to travel? Oh yes, that’s me the one and only.

I begged the nail technician to hurry since I was travelling and she didn’t fail to assure me that we were going to finish in time but we ended up finishing very late. So much for being a lady.

I stared at the clock it was 10:40 am “Oh shit!” I yelled after hurrying back home to get ready but deep down in my heart I knew I was screwed already.

I got home, I quickly got ready, ordered my ride, and thankfully my ride came early to pick me up, and in no time I was at the bus station.

“Calm down Zara you’ve got this”, typical me assuring myself after screwing things up for myself.

I got my bus ticket in no time but leaving the park was the issue. They had to wait and wait for other passengers.
Seconds rolled into minutes and minutes rolled into hours and before I knew what was happening I had stayed at the bus station for hours.

Feeling angry and frustrated I marched down to the ticket booth to request a refund so I could go use another transport company but the receptionist smiled and said “We apologize for the delay Ma’am but we don’t do refunds”.

“You don’t do what?” I glared at her.

“We don’t do refunds Ma’am but we promise to leave in the next 30 minutes.” she gave me the forced pretentious smile they were taught to always wear.

“You keep me here for 2 hours and you’re telling me no refund?!” I asked.

“Ma’am we apologize, in the next 30 minutes we will leave regardless of the bus being empty or full”. She assured me.

“Arrrrrggghh!” I yelled in frustration. Not today Zara, you aren’t going to lose your cool, I mentally restrained myself from creating a scene.

The transport company kept to their word and in 30 minutes we were out of the park.

I knew I was going to get home late and I knew I wasn’t going to hear the end of my father’s scolding.

We continued with the journey, having to ply bad roads, army checkpoints, and street fights that generally categorized an interstate trip.

A few hours after we entered the city where my family lives the driver started driving slowly. Some passengers complained about this, but he ignored it and kept on driving like a snail.

I wanted to raise my voice again but I held back, Zara remember you’re in your soft girl era, no yelling, I swallowed all I had to say and just quietly watched a movie on my phone.

Despite being upset with how the whole event unfolded there was mad traffic in the city.

You know that kind of traffic where everywhere is blocked and locked and it seems like the key was thrown away? That’s the kind of traffic I encountered and I felt like crying.

I hate traveling as I couldn’t withstand long trips, unnecessary traffic, and bad roads that was why I didn’t travel back home for three years.

“Madam where are you? Did you change your mind?”. My sister sent a message to our family group chat.

“Hehehe prodigal daughter just isn’t ready to return back home”. My brother replied.

The group chat was on fire as everyone in my family was just after my life and the traffic didn’t help at all.

“I’m screwed,” I said to myself and slumped back in my seat.

I tried to focus on the movie I was watching but I just couldn’t. I just wanted to go home to be with the people I love.

The traffic was so bad that we spent hours and hours to the point where I wanted to cry my eyes out because I was tired and hungry.

My phone was buzzing as my family members were calling nonstop just to know where I was and each time I mentioned where I was they became more and more worried.

After so many hours of being on the road, I finally got home.
The moment I saw my family I didn’t know when I teared up. I forgot about all the hours I spent on the road as all that mattered to me was being in the presence of the people that mattered the most to me and spending Christmas with them.

Thank you

That's a lot of movie in your arsenal. However, I think it takes away all the fraustration from being on the road and travelling for long hours. It's a huge advantage to have movies

Ohh yeah, movies do the trick for me every single time I’m frustrated and need to save my battery.

Christmas period and traffic is like bread and butter lol, just when you thought you were screwed then you found yourself in a mad traffic.
The most important thing is that you got home safe and sound, and you get to spend your holiday with your family. !LUV
