How health-conscious are you?

A Nigerian music choreographer is currently trending on Twitter due to kidney failure, most likely because his immune system rejected the transplanted kidney he received from his younger brother.

He has been tweeting for a year, and the majority of his tweets are about the depression he is been experiencing, which most people assumed was due to a midlife crisis and depression. Today, he tweeted about his condition, and many people could not help but wonder what he was going through after a year of dialysis and a transplant rejection.

It indicates that more than half of people have what we call comorbidities. This means having a condition that can lead to a specific condition. High blood pressure and diabetes are two examples of comorbidities associated with kidney failure.

There are also genetic conditions that are associated with kidney failure, but the body is such a powerful machine that it sometimes gives people warning signs of illnesses before they become irreversible.

Now, this guy is a chain smoker who probably consumes a lot of alcohol, and many believe that this is what contributed to his kidney failure. While alcohol and drugs may cause kidney damage, this is uncommon.

So this guy probably had high blood pressure or diabetes. I doubt he has a genetic condition because, with the exception of one, most genetic conditions that cause kidney damage do not affect Africans, and this guy did not have this condition.

Many people believe that kidney failure occurs suddenly; however, it does not, unless it is acute. The kidneys can treat inflammation but not scar tissue. So, before someone goes into failure, their condition must have been chronic for years.

Because the kidneys are one of the strongest human organs, people can have chronic kidney disease and still have an estimated glomeruli filtration GFR that lasts them their entire life. It is manageable.

Failure occurs when people do not properly manage their condition, and the majority of Nigerians do not have genetic conditions that cause failure in a short period of time.

Diabetes is an underappreciated killer because you do not realize you have it until it is too late. Unless you have a known genetic condition and your sugar level and blood pressure are normal, your chances of developing kidney problems are almost nonexistent.

Control What You Can

leave the things you can't

The average Nigerian knows very little about their health system, which is why they live poor lifestyles. People are predisposed to sugar and use it in any way they want; they continue for a long time without realizing that type 2 diabetes is one of those deadly conditions that can be avoided with a healthy lifestyle.

I have a genetic condition that has impaired my kidneys, but I do not have diabetes or high blood pressure. So, while my impairment was beyond my control, my doctor was relieved to have detected it in time.

Although it is not a major impairment, protein in urine, is an ultimate thing that indicates impairment, and despite not having a lot ( not up 1G per 24 hours), I still have to address the one that's there's and the doctor was happy, we might have to continue medication to start addressing it as early as possible. I was saddened by this, but thankful my GFR was still normal. Despite how healthy my lifestyle has been, gentic conditions are something you can do nothing about.

Many people are unaware that chronic medical conditions can cause depression. People tend to underestimate depression until they have experienced it. This guy is a jolly fun guy who enjoys smoking, drinking, and partying; unfortunately, he did not realize he was sick until it was too late. He must have been trying to figure out why he did not take his health more seriously, and the regret will stay with him.

Many people are unaware that life is fleeting until it confronts them, at which point they remember God and pray for a second chance. If your condition is not genetic, you have the opportunity to take control of your life by going for check-ups. Cholesterol levels and such. You may feel fine, but you could be very sick, and you have no idea.

@tipu curate

Thank you 🙏

It's so unfortunate about the celebrity health condition and true his going through hard times seeing that his life is gradually fading away and can't help despite having the resources.

Indeed one need to really take their health seriously and visit the doctor for a regular checkup at least thrice a year to be certain all is well that too being able to detect when there is even a little disorder.

I saw his tweet and how people are praying for him. I didn't venture into much thought, but getting the gist that drinking and smoking is his lifestyle, he should have taken care of his health more. Going for regular checkups shouldn't have been a problem for him if he could afford to party hard and spend.

Well... I wish him well and sincerely hope he learns from this.

Well, I think it boils down to feeling okay. When most people feel okay, they don't think they need medical care, apart from being a Christian, which I normally won't smoke or drink, he should have take care of his health better because of the lifestyle they're prone to living, I mean celebrities and all

Yes, his lifestyle. He knows what he consumes. What if his brother's kidney damaged before? Would he even have gotten any donation. Our health matters.

Life is short, enjoy it while it lasts. I agree. Diabetes and high blood pressure are a big problem in people of African ancestry even here with kidney failure often being the one thing that gets people to go to the doctor. Your case is very different. Hang in there, and be grateful for life. Like you I know all too well that life is fleeting and any day could be the last!

Yes, over here, type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure is a thing and most people don't take it seriously, unless they begin to get symptoms of which it might have already been too late.
I'm grateful to God, at least my condition has taught me a lot, and I'm living to do the will of God as against mine and, I'm lucky that his mercy has been gracious to me nonetheless.

Thanks for the kind words

It sucks when things are out of your control, but I do agree that a lot of people don't realize until its too late. Most people don't do anything until it becomes an issue and I don't really feel sorry for the people who actively went overdrinking or smoking. I do feel sorry for the ones with genetic problems though.

You're right, it becomes a bit unfair when it's genetic, and it's kind of painful that people who were perfectly healthy, let their health down because of poor lifestyle choices though.

Definitely! I think the body will always give warning signs to indicate something is wrong long before the problem is acutely manifested, apart from a few exceptions. Unfortunately, we tend to treat it as a minor issue or something trivial and go about with our lives as if everything is normal. The best time to take care of our health is when we're young, to be knowledgeable about it and live a healthy lifestyle.

Yeah, for people without commorbidities, it's important to do the health stuff that's right for them. Unfortunately there are people who can't control what happens to them and this is why I think people who can control the things they can are extremely lucky and needs to do the needful

That's right. Focusing on what we can control and doing it to the best of our abilities will put us in a better condition to fight against what we can't control, I think.

I feel bad for TG Omori and I really prayed for him. He drink, smokes and does all other things
I just hope he survives and fellow entertainers like him learn from what he’s going through
He’s a smoker but doesn’t want to die now

Your text is sensational. I usually say that health is the most important thing we have in our possession, without it, we can't do anything else, so it's essential that we take care of it.

Although I confess that I'm not taking such good care of mine, what I have been doing is trying to cut out too much sugar and salt, after all, balance is what matters, we don't need to deprive ourselves of everything, we just don't need to consume too much of anything.

Now, about "Control What You Can", it's perfect, I used to want to control everything all the time and that's horrible, so now I live a lighter life, worrying only about what I really need to worry about.
