Pixels, Shutters & Memories

In this post, I am going to show you some of the photos I have taken over the years in order to contrast how unproductive I have become with how productive and enthusiastic I used to be. Pictures, of course, are memories that speak to us about specific periods in our lives; while our minds can recall past events, nothing does so better than a photograph.

I used to appreciate and love aesthetics as a child; I was an art prodigy who could literally paint and draw people with pencils, and many people were amazed at how well I could do it.

Little things like excitement or pain sparked my creativity, and I recall those happy days. Growing up, I became interested in photography and pursued it further.

Come rain or shine

I have taken photos on a busy road, a railroad with moving trains, and even inside flowing water. I have made videos in prohibited areas. I have been molested for making videos, and believe me, Lagos, Nigeria, is a hostile environment for photographers without digital cameras.

There was a time when I considered going into professional photography; I made the plans and everything, but I had no intention of profiting financially from it; it was my passion, and I have taken over 10,000 photos since I began exploring. Ah, the good old days.

Pictures are powerful, memorable, and bring you epiphanies.

They are so powerfully connected to the mind that they remind you of what once was but is no longer. They remind you of what once was, but it is no longer the same. They serve as a reminder of both the positive and negative aspects of time.

1000385744.jpg

They create a sense of vividness and assist us in immortalizing things that may vanish at some point

For example, most people use pictures to document their weight gain or loss journey; it is the only way to keep track and inspire others.

So, pictures are more than just real; they are tangible evidence that can be touched, seen, and recalled.

I have phone pictures of how I looked 12 years ago, and they sometimes helped me get through that particular moment. Unfortunately, time has passed, and I no longer have that passion; it appears to have vanished, and life expectations and events have resulted in even greater responsibilities.

However, I am grateful for all of those wonderful years; every now and then, I scroll through these photos, and they remind me of how passionate I was.

1000385739.jpg

Life changes; what you love may become unsustainable, the people you know may fade into memory, and you may need to meet new people to sustain the person you have become.

You make friends, unfriend them, make new friends to meet your current needs, and then unfriend them after many years.

Sometimes these people are remembered primarily through photographs; the dinner date you had with them, the birthday parties, the collective smiles, and so on. Handshakes, job interviews, group photos, and so on, and you only realize how powerful photographs are when you need to remember something with them, when you need them to awaken or spark feelings inside of you.

My point is that people fade away, but pictures help you remember them, and because I am such a collector, I can remember the people I used to know. My eagerness to photograph people, even if I will only see them once and never again, I suppose is why I remember so many people who will not remember me anymore. It is the same with pictures of places and things.

In Conclusion

I have photos of places that have been destroyed or renovated, how life used to be simple and how difficult it has become. How you could almost do a 100-meter walk but can no longer do 10 meters. Life is full of memories, both good and bad. On the bright side, this is why photography equipment, such as the s23 ultras, iPhone 15s, and Nikkons, is so expensive.

I am not sure if it will ever take photos out of passion rather than necessity; life has happened, and everything seems to have changed, even though it was so good just yesterday.

Thank you 🙏

Life changes a lot and I think pictures are a good way of remembering how things were in the past. Relying on memory isn't always the most accurate so those pictures come in helpful.

You're right, memories aren't always accurate when it comes to remembering things, pictures gives you the exact details.

Photos remind us of both negative and positive event. It's a collection of memories and so important. I may not be a great photographer but I do not fail to capture every moment in my life, my family and that of friends.
Life happened and u lost the interest
If this makes u happy, why not continue while u can?
Good morning Joe

I use to be a decent amateur photographer, back in my hay days I travelled from states to states to take photos and it was a decent experience.

If this makes u happy, why not continue while u can?

Hopefully someday, if the Lord says so, as for now, it no longer.

Good morning, how are things coming?

Things are going well small small...just hustling offline for myself to fight the economy
Lol

Offline and online combination is the best nowadays because life is not even sustainable anymore

Wow I love this phone

Which phone is that?

Wow!!
This is an expensive truth you just shared. Photography forms a great part of history. Sometimes when I see my pictures they were taken when I was still very young, I would smile at them, because I have really changed in structure and complexion.
Nice article from you, my boss.

Exactly, the memories they bring can be priceless, reflective, saddening and even delightful.

There are times when I delete some of my old pictures. I may be the one in that picture but the moment I remember what happened on that day, if it makes me sad, I’m likely to delete it
Pictures are memories and they tell a lot about past
It’s just like music
Do you know that there are some songs you listen to and reminds you of a particular time in your life?

Well, some of my pictures makes me sad, I have pictures of my brother, he's gone, but looking at them alone makes it difficult fore to breathe, so you're right, it's not just about good memories alone

You're most welcome @josediccus 👍🏻

In the end we all fade away and pictures will be all that's left in the end. Hopefully future generations can look back and appreciate them. I've been writing my life's story over the last few months, my memoirs I suppose, maybe someday someone will find them interesting.

Friends come and go, life is about change, that's it's one big guarantee. Soon you'll have a kid too! Not much longer is it?

I don't have a lot of physical pictures, I mean paper pictures, it's mostly digital. I didn't take a lot growing up because I was mostly ill and there wasn't time for milestones and all that.
But, I'll eventually find the eagerness to do so.

Friends come and go, life is about change, that's it's one big guarantee.

True, nowadays it's just a few people, who I know and nothing more

Soon you'll have a kid too! Not much longer is it?

Soon enough, I have faith it'll turn out well.

Awesome brother, your photos really bring out the beauty and complexity of life's moments. Keep getting those memories. I literally keep every special moment on a hard drive
