It was my first year at university, and I was a bit of a loner who preferred not to make friends. I got my admission late, just two months before exams, and I was determined to succeed, so I focused hard on my studies.
On the first day of exams, the person sitting next to me was someone I didn’t know. I felt relieved when I saw the questions because I had studied hard, and they looked easy. I noticed he was watching me and then asked, "Guy, please, I need your help." I turned to look at him but quickly went back to my work because I didn’t want to get in trouble.
He asked again, looking desperate, so I let him sneak a peek at my answers. Before I submitted my paper, I asked if he was okay, and he said no, so I waited for him to finish.
After the exam, he thanked me for letting him copy, even though we were strangers. I smiled and turned to leave. He asked for my name and I told him, but when he asked for my number, I declined. I didn’t want any kind of friendship at that time.
The next day, he spotted me on campus and asked again for my number. Since he was persistent, I eventually gave it to him. After that, he would call to say hello, and he even invited me to his house, but I always made excuses to avoid going. He wanted to visit me too, but I always turned him down.
One day, I was studying in the library and ran into him. He was happy to see me and mentioned that he knew I had been avoiding him. He explained that he had only gotten his admission three days before the exam and wasn’t prepared, which is why he had asked me for help. He felt hesitant but had no choice since he didn't want to fail.
After that day, we started to develop a closer friendship. Now, we are both married with kids, and we feel more like family than just friends.
