It was just a dream till I went ahead and got the skill. I was very excited to learn the skill of ”fashion design”.
I loved making outfits using different fabrics and more importantly, I envied those clothing line I usually come across in some fashion magazines.
”I hoped to have my own fashion line one day”.
I spent two full years learning the skill. I was very enthusiastic and joyful about seeing my dream become reality. My mom even promised to get me my very own sewing machine. That further fueled my zeal to learn and I did so with all my heart.
At the end of my training, seeing that I was already so good at tailoring clothes, my dad organized a big graduation ceremony for me. He was proud to have a fashion designer in the family. Mom kept to her words and presented me with a sewing machine.
I began taking orders from friends and family, still hopeful of having my very own fashion house.
What hindered me
Life happened as time progressed. Series of family issues cropped up here and there that took away the little funds I had previously saved up.
Another hinderance was getting a good location. My area of residence is far from the bubbling towns where one could get good bargains for an order.
Moreover majority of the residents preferred the local dress makers to high class fashion designers simply because the former charged them less. Like how could they expect me to charge one thousand naira to make a long gown dress…really?
Will I get back to it?
Of course, I definitely would. Not only I'm I going to work hard on making this dream a reality, I have also opened a fixed deposit account where I would be saving some amount of money to finally open my fashion house.
I have also begun discussing with a housing agent to get me a good but affordable property in a good location, where my business and skills would be appreciated.
Thank you all for reading.
