I have always enjoyed Sunday morning. Things are nice and quiet and I have absolutely no rush to get anywhere. I keep thinking I should put together a Sublime Sunday post, but I already have a long standing contest that I've been running on Sunday for many long months now. It's hard to believe that this will be the thirty-ninth week of the HSBI giveaway. I since have added in the prizes of some DUO tokens as well after @bitcoinman , @bulliontools and I started up the new token to facilitate new onboarding and retention of new Hive members.
Every week for this contest I always ask an entry question because I like to encourage engagement. It's much more interesting for me to hear other people's ideas and their answers. This past week the question was: What is your favorite wild cat? Things along the line of lions and tigers, and I got all sorts of great answers. I like to review some of the most popular responses each week, I would love to cover each response but the post would just get too long.
The favorite wild cat was...
Tiger
abc7news.com
The overall winner this time around was the tiger. At first I thought the lion has a chance but the tiger racked up six votes! They really are gorgeous animals aren't they? The are found principally in Asia but have lost much of their historic habitat. They have had precipitous declines in the wild populations and are considered an endangered species. Their preferred prey are hooved animals and they use a surprise ambush as their main hunting technique. They have been known to hunt people as well on rare occasion.
What a beautiful animal! I would much rather meet one in the zoo than in the wild though. They are powerful and dangerous apex predators. Thanks for this pick by @lumpiadobo , @moonthumb , @kungfukid , @mxm0unite , @logen9f and @ronnie10 .
Jaguar
en.wikipedia.org
This large cat species lives in the Americas and used to have ranges throughout the southern US, Mexico, Central and South America. The population in the United States was hunted into extinction mostly by ranchers, and the last one was killed in the Grand Canyon in the 1940's. Mexican populations are dwindling due to poachers and even in South America their numbers are dropping. They hunt large game when available or smaller prey when nothing bigger is available.
Some of these cats can produce too much melanin resulting in a black panther, which is no different that the regular colored animals. Their patterns in their fur can identify individual cats like fingerprints in humans. They really are gorgeous animals! I hope that they will get reintroduced in the United States much like wolves have been. They are apex predators that belong here!

Lion
3dhdwallpaperspicture.blogspot.com
Lions are really well known animals and have been fascinating humans for thousands of years. Although from Africa they were frequently kept as pets by kings and emperors in Europe. Today they are a threatened species due to poaching and loss of habitat. They are apex predators that hunt most large game available to them, except elephants, rhinos, or hippos. Nothing preys on them once they are adults!
Hopefully conservations and protection can save the lions from extinction. They are beautiful animals as long as they aren't hunting you! This was picked by @prapledragon , @cositav and @sylmarill . Thanks!
Cougar
animal-wildlife.blogspot.com
The cougar or mountain lion is a large cat species that lives in throughout most of North, Central and South America. Their range in the eastern United States has been diminished and they are rarely seen west of the Rocky Mountains except for an endangered population in southern Florida. They prefer larger prey like deer and even elk but are opportunistic hunters on smaller prey as well. These beautiful animals tend to be very shy around humans and are rarely seen near urban areas. Thanks for this pick by @silvertop , @theroad2freedom , @gwajnberg and @mcoinz79 .
Snow Leopard
inquiriesjournal.com
The snow leopard is a fascinating large cat that lives in high elevations of Central and South Asia. They prefer rocky areas and meadows during summer usually ranging from 9,800 to 14,800 feet (3,000 to 4,500 m). In winter the come down to lower and warmer terrain. They prefer to eat Himalayan sheep and goats but will eat smaller prey when necessary. They are a threatened species due to habitat loss and poaching. There are many protected areas for the animals but their numbers are still on the decline. Hopefully this is a species we can save, they are really pretty animals! Thanks for this pick by @davedickeyyall and @henruc !
Cheetah
nationalzoo.si.edu
These large cats inhabit Africa and have four sub species. What's most incredible about them is their speed raging from 50 to 80 miles per hour ( 80 to 128 km/h) allowing them be an effective hunter. Sadly they are a very threatened species due to habitat loss and poaching. There are conservation efforts ongoing and with any luck the cheetah will be saved as a species. Thanks to @hatdogsensei and @milaan for this pick!
Bob Cat
We had one pick for Bob Cat, so here's Bobcat Goldthwait. Sorry, I couldn't resist! Not what @dewabrata was referring to but he is one funny comedian!
reddit.com
nature.org
The bob cat lives throughout North America from Canada down into Mexico. They are one of the smaller cat species and live off of small prey including hares, rodents, birds... Pretty much anything they can catch. They are very common and not endangered, but they are pretty animals and very cool wild cats.
And some honorable mentions @lanzjoseg for picking the ocelot, the house cat by @whywhy , the liger (lion and tiger hybrid) by @olaf.gui and the caracal by @florakese ! I would love to write a section about each but my post would just be too long. All of these were great choices, thanks!
Now for today's question. It's just about lunchtime and I'm craving fish tacos... Maybe I shouldn't be finishing this up right before lunch! What is your favorite seafood?
The Giveaway
I will be giving out two prizes of five (5) HSBI. Third prize will be 2 DUO tokens, the token I recently launched with @bulliontools and @bitcoinman . It offers those who stake sufficient tokens daily curation on quality posts, dividends, and a tipping bot. It also helps to onboard and retain new Hive members. At the end of the post there is a link to the white paper and where to purchase the tokens. There will also be one legendary Splinterlands card as a fourth prize. If you don't play Splinterlands just let me know and I'll send you two HSBI instead. To participate you need a reputation level of at least 25 and bots cannot win. And please one entry per person to make it fair to everyone.
If you have more questions about DUO feel free to ask, it's growth is exceeding all of our expectations!
