Sunny autumn ride through the Dutch polder (with video)

in #hive-17774524 days ago

Last weekend we were very lucky with the weather. We were lucky with the weather. It was warm, sunny, and there was little wind. A great time to jump on the bicycle and go for a round.
I made an appointment with a friend to go for a bike ride on Sunday morning.

With a temparature of just above 15 degrees Celsius and a nice sun it was perfect to go for a ride without my gloves and in shorts.
While I was waiting for my buddy on a nearby bridge, I took this photo of the rising sun.

Because it hasn't been raining for a couple of days, so the roads were safe. As usual in fall there are quite some leaves on the roads (as you can see in the photo below) and under wet conditions it can get very slippery.
But dry leaves are no problem.

As you can see in the photos and the video there is a lot of water in the area. We made a cycling trip in the polder. A polder is a piece of land reclaimed from a body of water, such as a lake or the sea. The Dutch are experts of reclaiming land. The reclaimed land is surrounded by dikes and canals that drain the water.

@1:05 in the video you see an example of a polder. We are cycling on a dike. On the right you have the canal and on the left you see the polder that is lower than the level of the water of the canal.

In the polder there is a lot of farm land. In this particular area there are many farmers who are involved in livestock farming. There are many cows and sheep. Sometimes the cycling routes went through the fields with livestock.
We were even surprised to see some sheep on the cycling path (@1:33 on the video).
@1:50 you see us entering an area that is enclosed with a fence to keep the cows. The farmers allow cyclists to pass over their property and the cows also don't mind since they are used to people.

We were very lucky this weekend because the new week started with darkness and drizzle.
After finishing the ride I had a total of 55 kilometer on my navigation.
It was a nice ride. I hope we will have some nice weather in the coming weekend again too.
