Hey peeps.
We had been planning for quite some time to invite my uncle (mama's brother) over for dinner since he had come to Pakistan after three years, but due to the heat, the plan kept getting delayed. This week, it has been raining on our side, so my mom made a sudden plan for the dinner. Yesterday, we hosted the dinner at our place. My mom and our maid prepared the food together because it would have been difficult for my mom to cook so much food alone. I also helped quite a bit.
Actually, the weather has a significant impact on our lives. Especially in the summers, many activities are avoided so that no one feels burdened, and cooking is already a difficult task, particularly in the heat. That's why my mom chose the day based on the weather.
At night, just before they were about to come, I set the table and arranged the dishes. I made sure that no dishes would be lacking. My uncle came to our house with a cake as a gesture. He brought his children and wife with him. After meeting everyone, we all sat together in one room and conversed. After a while, my mama set the food on the dining table, and then we all moved there to eat.
My mother made biryani and mutton, which was very delicious. The biryani was outstanding; everyone really enjoyed it. Biryani is a meal that we also enjoy a lot, and it’s the favorite food of the majority of people, but I’m an exception. I don’t like it that much; I don’t eat it with much enthusiasm. If it’s available, I’ll eat it, but it’s not something I particularly enjoy.
After that, my grandma made homemade yogurt-based dish because she enjoys this dish very much. She blends coriander and mint into the yogurt, which gives it an exceptional taste. I also really like this dish because it is very refreshing for my stomach.
We Punjabis really enjoy sweets. There isn’t an occasion, whether it’s a family gathering or a wedding, where we don’t have something sweet. At the invitation, two sweet dishes were prepared. I made one, and my mother made the other. My mumma made kheer, which my uncle really likes. Kheer is kind of healthy as it is made in milk and also tastes really well.
The other dish I made was fruit salad, in which I used a variety of fruits and also included a cocktail. Fruit salad is a super healthy meal, and in our culture, it is also considered a symbol of affluence. Haha. Since fruits are quite expensive in our country, it's seen as a great gesture.
It’s almost impossible for us that there was a children gathering going on without breaking something. During the meal, there was a loud bang, and we found out that my little cousin had broken the glass on the table. But that's fine. In brown families, this is a common occurrence because our children are often quite unruly.
Overall, it was a lot of fun at this gathering. In our brown families, such gatherings are very common and are believed to strengthen family bonds. The more often you interact with each other, the closer you become. So, we enjoyed it a lot, and the gathering ended late into the night.
See you soon people.
Take care till then.
