Working from home may have some disadvantages, but I'm having more quality time with my family, especially with my niece, Little Breiana Each time I felt down and stressed, she's there to make me smile. When I felt lonely, she would simply bang on my door; then she'd become my little companion. She's like a rainbow that would fill out my day with colors when it seems dull and lifeless.
One day, she got her boo-boo (a minor injury) due to carelessness, and I played a small part in it as well. The jolly little girl burst out and became irritated because of the pain she was feeling. While she was playing with her cooking toys, she grabbed a cup and poured water from our dispenser. Unbeknownst to her, the red dispenser was for hot water. She pressed it, and instead of pouring the water into her cup, it was poured onto her tiny hand. I was supposed to stop her, but my actions just made the situation worse. I felt guilty and mad at myself for accidentally hurting my niece. I felt her pain because I was once a victim of our water dispenser.
To mend her boo-boo, I took a bucket of cold water and dipped her hurting hand into it with the hope of easing her pain. More guilt rushed through me while seeing her face in pain and hearing her loudest cry. I couldn't imagine that I'd inflict pain on her, which resulted in severe discomfort. It took a while for her to calm down and the pain to subside. Her burn was first-degree, which was already painful for a small kid who still doesn't know how to manage pain.
When things became better, and she was no longer crying, her mom and I brought her to the town to buy medicine for her burn. The kid loves riding on a motorcycle and road trip, so it helped her calm down and forget about her boo-boo for a while. After buying the medicine, his mom bought her ice cream, her favorite, to pacify her more. Her smile was regained, and she was no longer minding her boo-boo, instead focusing on eating her favorite chocolate ice cream.
Afterward, we went to the church that was located only a few walks from the pharmacy. She became excited upon seeing the colorful buntings or strings of flags strung across the pathway to the church.
The festive vibe evoked her tiny little sense of wonder and awe, and she happily walked toward the church as if nothing bad happened to her that day. Unfortunately, the church was closed, so we just stayed outside and found a spot to sit down where she could eat her ice cream well.
Seeing her smile also eased the guilt I felt. And she's happy again ☺️.
Thanks for your time.
