Almost three months ago, I participated in a Reforestation Day, and since then I have been keeping an eye on how the plant I took that day to plant is evolving. As the place is a mountain where I usually go weekly to exercise, it has been easy for me to do this monitoring 😊.
Hace casi tres meses, participé en una Jornada de Reforestación, y desde entonces he estado pendiente de cómo evoluciona la planta que llevé ese día a sembrar. Como el lugar es una montaña a la que suelo ir semanalmente a ejercitarme, me ha resultado fácil hacer este seguimiento 😊.
I usually leave my house very early, at 6:00 am, for me it's a perfect time to train. I arrived at the entrance of the mountain about 20 minutes later and started to climb, the moon looked spectacular yesterday morning.
Suelo salir muy temprano de mi casa, a las 6:00 am, para mí es una hora perfecta para entrenar. Llegué a la entrada de la montaña como 20 minutos después y comencé a subir, la luna se veía espectacular ayer por la mañana.
In about 15 minutes I reached the first peak of this mountain known as Cerro Onotal and located in La Victoria, Aragua (Venezuela), from there you can make several hiking trails.
En unos 15 minutos llegué a la primera cima de esta montaña conocida como Cerro Onotal y ubicada en La Victoria, Aragua (Venezuela), desde allí se pueden hacer varias rutas de senderismo.
The plant that I brought to the reforestation day that took place here on May 26th, was a papaya, and I planted it in Morro #1 or Bella Vista, about 5 minutes uphill.
La planta que traje a la jornada de reforestación que se hizo aquí el 26 de mayo, fue una lechoza o papaya, y la sembré en en Morro #1 o Bella Vista, a unos 5 minutos subiendo.
All these “Morros” are viewpoints, and several hiking groups in the city have been responsible for placing benches, tables and even photo frames there. Also motivational messages and messages of care for nature and of course plants of all kinds.
Todos estos "Morros" son miradores, y varios grupos senderistas de la ciudad se han encargado de colocar allí bancos, mesas y hasta marcos para fotos. También mensajes motivadores y de cuidado a la naturaleza y por supuesto plantas de todo tipo.
Right next to one of these benches with messages, which were not yet there when the reforestation day took place, I placed my plant, between two small trees.
Justo al lado de uno de estos bancos con mensajes, que no estaban aún allí cuando se hizo la jornada de reforestación, sembré mi planta, entre dos pequeños árboles.
I think I chose a good place for this papaya, what do you think?

In these three months it has grown more or less twice as much, since we are in the rainy season, it has not lacked water.
Y así se ve actualmente, en estos tres meses ha crecido más o menos el doble, como estamos en temporada de lluvias, no le ha faltado agua.

I did some research on how long it takes for the papaya plant to bear fruit and found 10-12 months, pretty quick. it will be very exciting to pick some of the crop! Hopefully I won't be overtaken by others 😂.
Investigué un poco sobre cuánto tarda la planta de papaya en dar frutos y encontré que de 10 a 12 meses, bastante rápido. ¡Será muy emocionante recoger algo de la cosecha! Ojalá no se me adelanten otras personas 😂.

When it grows more and its trunk gets thicker, I have to keep an eye on to remove the bottle that we put on it as a protector when we planted it. Also, when the dry season arrives, I will have to bring it water so that it thrives in optimal conditions.
Cuando crezca más y su tronco se ponga más grueso, tengo que estar pendiente de quitarle la botella que le pusimos como protector al sembrarla. También, cuando llegue la época de sequía, deberé traerle agua para que prospere en óptimas condiciones.
In its surroundings I came across several centipedes, but they are not a danger to the papaya, I was told that the insects that usually attack it are the bachacos (big ass ants).
En sus alrededores me topé con varios ciempiés, pero ellos no son un peligro para la papaya, me dijeron que los insectos que suelen atacarla son los bachacos (hormiga culona).
I hope that my papaya manages to be a great tree and contribute to the environment of this beautiful mountain, and that in a few months I can show it to you again 😉.
