Today I am pleased to be able to share with you a small part of my city, I am talking specifically about the historic centre of Valencia in Venezuela, this city is full of important and emblematic buildings that keep in every corner a piece of history, which is part of our idiosyncrasy, so today I will show you what is known today as the Paraninfo of the University of Carabobo, since university, public or school events are held there, but previously it functioned as the headquarters of many important public institutions.

It is located in front of the Sucre square, between the Municipal Theatre and the San Francisco de Asis church. It was initially founded as a Franciscan convent in 1634, in fact it is the oldest standing construction in the city, but in 1750 it already had a grammar chair as well as a library. One of the things I liked the most about this visit was the fact that it is possible to see part of the original wall, which was made of adobe, a material that was used a lot at that time and is of the highest quality.

The place ceased to be a convent when president Antonio Guzmán Blanco declared it as the new headquarters of the Colegio Federal de Primera Categoría that used to function in the Casa de la Estrella (a quite old building too) so they had to reform it completely because it used to have only one floor, and for the transformation they added a second one, which is why they eliminated the original roof and also reformed the façade which is the one we can see nowadays, But despite the fact that this place was converted into many institutions, including the headquarters of the law faculty of the University of Carabobo for a long time, until not long ago, it still conserves all the colonial elements like the balconies and the columns, it is a beautiful place that transmits peace and solemnity at the same time, you can see that it is a place dedicated to culture and literature.

I think it is one of the buildings that most adorns the city, one of the most emblematic and culturally and historically valuable, and I am very happy that it has been preserved as it is.

It is good that there are places that preserve history, as these are the foundations of our countries, whether good or bad, it is something that had to happen for us to be in these times.
In addition to that it is important to know our history in order not to make the same mistakes or to recognize them in order not to take the same path.
