Anger Management

Hello community members. It's feels great to be writing here again. I find it educative and inspiring to write on these topics in this community. And today I wish to share my opinion or view on how I think anger can be managed or rather how I manage anger.

I wouldn't want to just delve into the how and how and how to manage anger. I wish to set a base for what I'll be sharing by setting straight and correct the possible misconception about the subject of anger. This I believe is necessary because it's seems obvious that when you talk about anger, people generally just imagine this fury and all of that. There's more to it though.

Anger I believe is an emotion that is common with man. We all have the tendencies to get angry and yes, we do get angry, whether because of injustice, misunderstanding or when someone hurt us. It may seem to many that you shouldn't get angry. No, I think the misconception is there. Most importantly is what you do with that anger that matters a lot.
There are two sides to anger and both leads to the same thing, an "action". An action provoked by anger can either be to destroy or to correct, all in a bid to communicate our pleasure or displeasure about a situation.

That feeling of rage and frustration translates into a physical outburst, sometimes destroying things or even hurting the person who is the cause of it. These then are some of the negative consequences of anger, especially when not put in check and under control.

Anger is not necessarily negative; people get angry for a good reason too. Have you ever felt a strong urge to stand up for people who couldn't stand for themselves? Or have you been provoked in your spirit to a point where you say enough is enough, I'm going to make things right? You can attest to the fact that in these situations your anger is well justified, as long as the actions that followed are also in check.

Getting angry can be for a good cause, but it will be good to note that such a good cause can turn sour when it is vented and acted in the wrong way. It is for reason like this that many get caught up by the law because their anger motivated them to wrong actions. And guess what, the law doesn't care. I find this prompt really inspiring once again, and in the light of that, I share my opinions on how anger can be managed.

First, I try to avoid talking when angry. It's kind of funny with me because I'm much of a quiet person and when I decide to keep silent like this, people think it's just one of those acts of my nature as a quiet person. It can be hard managing it, especially in times like that when you're angry but people don't ever consider it to be so. Nevertheless, I try to maintain this practice and it has been very helpful.

Secondly, I try to excuse myself and find a place to just be with myself and have some ease. Staying back can make me lose my temper which will lead me to doing something I'll only regret later. I learnt the result of anger when acted at that point is mostly tragic and regretful, so I learn to act after I've excused myself and taken ease.

Thirdly, when someone offends me, before I react, I try to imagine myself in their shoes. Doing so will help me understand where they are coming from and also know why they acted the way they did. I ask myself what if I was the one, would I have acted differently? Only when I have answered these questions will I know my next line of action.

In conclusion, getting angry is not a challenge, it's how we manage it that forms the big challenge. Do you easily get controlled by the rage and fury you feel that comes from this emotion, or you put it in check and consider how best to address the situation? It's all a function of intentional and tireless efforts to see that you can properly manage anger.

Sort:

Getting angry is completely normal, we cannot control when it'll happen but we can do is regulate how we react to it.
Thank you for this.

You're welcome @coderaikiri. Yes I agree with you, it is completely normal to get angry.

Hmmm I think you made good and valid points here.
Anger is truly an emotion, and should not be seen as something totally negative. It's what we do with the anger that makes the difference.

Thank you @daverick. True 👍 the doing is much more superior to the feeling. Hence the action that preceed our feeling of anger is what we really need to pay attention to.

Anger is natural but controlling it is key, I like the fact that you state some examples of positive anger. To get angry over what is not right is a thing then how you possibly address the issue is another thing. We must learn to stay calm and find lasting solutions when we're angry so that we may not leave ourselves vulnerable after our actions or inaction..
