Hello!! Welcome to my blog. It's not a mistake you're on this blog.
I am Manasseh Gaya but friends call me Mana. I'm from Nasarawa State, Nigeria. I'm a drummer and I'm very enthusiastic about it cos I know the sacrifices I've made to become a drummer.
I got to know about "Hive" through a friend @Ovie10 who's a musician whom I've played along side him on stage, I got so interested in HIVE knowing how legit the platform is from @Ovie10. I was awed knowing that I can extend my reach to fellow drummers and musician out here on hive with drum tutorials for beginners, drum write to encourage and motivate drummer as a music content creator.
Eh! Before I forget I'm a graduate of Microbiology from Federal University of Lafia. 😂 You probably thought I studied music! No I didn't! I'm currently a serving corp member in Osogbo, Osun state.
Since my childhood days I've loved drumming, and I knew already that music is going to be my thing in my life time. So I started playing the drums in my primary school, to be precise primary 3. The passion got so intense when I was in secondary school, that was when I made the conviction to learn drumming by all means. I always get into trouble in secondary school because of drumming, I beat lockers in class acting as if it's a drum set, I was known by most of the teachers for doing that. Even in situations whereby someone else drum on the lockers, I'll be the one to punished. For years I was playing drums on locker, it felt as if I will never be a drummer.
My starting point of being a real drummer not just a locker beater was when I made a decision that would change my life forever. I walked away from my family church at a very young age, leaving behind the comfort and familiarity of Sunday mornings with my loved ones. It was a bold move, one that would ultimately lead me to pursue my passion for drumming fully. I can still recall the uncertainty and fear that gripped me as I embarked on this new journey. I had no teacher, no resources, and no clear direction. But I was determined to make it happen.
That's when I met a brother in my area. He took me to his church and gave me the opportunity to play the drums, even though I was still learning. He showed me some basic grooves to play during praise and worship, and that was the starting point for me. For a whole year, I had the privilege of playing real drums, and those simple grooves he taught me became instinctive. Although that church wasn't where I ultimately honed my skills, it played a significant role in giving me experience and exposure.
Let me not bore you with too much talk. Because of the difficulty I experienced to become a drummer, I have made it a priority to help growing drummers, every day we have people quitting drumming, dumping their passion just because they can't find a way to start their passion. I have YouTube channel I drop drums tutorials, I make write ups to encourage and motivate drummers on my community and I'm thrilled that I will be extending my priority to Hive space now, more young drummers will be inspired and motivated.
I will be using this platform to discuss:
- Drumming: Entails articles on my experiences as a drummer, how to become a better drummer, how to conquer popular challenges as a drummer and so many more..
- Tutorials: Video lessons of basic rudimentary aspect of drumming including both theoretical and practical part.
- Drum Covers: Me playing along to tracks of popular singers and drum tracks
- Practice sections: overview of what I do during my practice section.
So grab a popcorn and hup on, we are going to have a great experience here together!!!
