We all have our childhood memories we still hold dear and remember some of the happiest moments of our lives. Most of the sweet memories were created when I was having fun with my loved ones and some of the times I was not really being proper or what you would term as being obedient( we have all been there) 😄
I still remember one time when my aunt said that we have to read during the weekends. While other children were playing outdoors, we were at home with our textbooks. She had the ‘education first’ mentality and regardless of how much we begged or how cute our eyes were, we were not getting out. The irony? We shared a table and I remember trying to catch a glimpse of her and then she would catch me, and we would pass the time making silly faces at each other or turning the studying into a game of who could make the other laugh without the her noticing. The fun fact about our compulsory studies during the weekends is that she’ll cook anything we tell her we want to eat so long as we’ll read 😂
Then there were the countless afternoons playing in the compound with my siblings whenever we were back from school. We had our own jokes and fictional universes where everything could turn out unexpectedly. It was very fun to run around, laugh and imagine we are fighting against each other in groups. I still recall those moments we’d play this “War scatter” game where we’ll be running around with sticks pretending that they’re guns 😂
I almost lost my right eyes one time because of that game 😂
Another unforgettable part of growing up was making friends and exploring. We’d often go to the river, despite strict instructions to stay away. The fact that we would know that if our parents or older siblings get to find out we’d be in serious trouble, we still will do what’s in our mind and go home to face the consequences 😂
We’d splash water on ourselves, try stunts at the bank of the river, We would play and, I am not kidding, laugh as loudly as we wanted and joke around, having the time of our lives.
And of course, one of the best parts of childhood? Not being the one to pay the bills
Sincerely, there’s something magical about reliving those memories without worrying about budgets, expenses, or adult responsibilities because sincerely “Adulthood na big set up 😂”
Just like in the lyrics of Laide’s song “Adulthood anthem, she said
“If I say make I calculate (calculate)
Wetin I dey spend from Monday to Sunday (Sunday)
Dey make me reminisce all those days
Wey pocket money go yapa for my pillow case oh
Now I gats send the money lo le oh (lo le oh)
Everything wey I want I must pay oh, mogbe oh
I fit to give anything to become a child again”

Sincerely most times I wish to go back to those days 😂
But, looking back, my childhood was full of laughter, innocence, and a bit of rule-breaking. Those moments shaped who I am today, and though life moves forward, those memories remain forever cherished.
