Hello everyone, it is a pleasure to be a part of this great community where I could learn and share my thoughts and ideas. The topic “The Power of Apologies and forgiveness” is indeed an interesting one and forgiveness is one of the virtues that everyone should imbibe to create a peaceful society.
Just like the phrase “to err is human to forgive is divine” everyone makes mistakes, we are all human and it is in our inherent nature to err, even the Almighty God understands our frame he knows our fallibility and that is why he is always and ever ready to forgive our errors.
Forgiveness is the art of letting go of a wrong or a hurt or an offense. Forgiveness is a divine quality, it is a process and it takes time and effort. In my journey through life I have discovered that forgiveness is a journey of healing, we can not stop people from hurting us but we can control how we respond to it, holding unto the past, bitterness and resentment has never outputted anything good and so we need to intentionally heal by forgiving.
I understand that most times apologies do not undo the wrong that has been done but it has the ability to mend hurt feelings, transform relationships and build trust if it is done sincerely and effectively.
To some persons it might not be so easy to say the words “I AM SORRY” but this simple words can bring back a broken relationship, it is a powerful tool for reconciliation. Many families have broken apart just because the fail to say the word “I AM SORRY” many relationships have been shattered because they both parties fail to see the need to apologise.
Apologies and forgiveness are not always easy but there are worth it, two wrongs do not make a right, we should try not to repay a wrong with another wrong, apologising can resolve everything.
Have you ever imagined what will be the outcome of holding unto a hurt or wrong doing? Does holding unto resentment or the past makes you feel any better? To me holding unto resentment has never helped at all and that’s why I learnt to forgive even before the person apologise.
Do you know that you hurt yourself the more when you retain a hurt and resentment in your mind? Do you know that unforgiveness can result in serious health issues like hypertension and cardiovascular diseases? Holding unto a hurt can cause depression, anxiety and mental issues, it dominates your thoughts and all you think of doing it to retaliate which ends up causing more harm.
Holding unto a hurt is just like retaining an acid in a container, it damages the container itself, that is a very simple example of the outcome of retaining a hurt or resentment.
You can see with me that the is no positive outcome of holding unto a hurt, it does not make you feel any better, holding unto it may seem like a way to cope but no it destroys.
Let us embrace the power of forgiveness, forgiving aids healing, it relieves you of all the mental stress that happens when you hold unto the past, it brings innermost peace, calmness and serenity. It helps us to grow and builds our relationship.

In all let love lead, there is no forgiveness without love. I want to leave you with a challenge; to choose forgiveness in the face of hurt, to choose love in the face of resentment, to choose peace in the face of turmoil. Always remember that forgiveness is not a one-time event, it is a continuous process and it requires our intentional effort.
Let us all strive to create a world where apologies and sincere forgiveness is abundant, a world where love leads the way. Mahatma Ghandi once said “The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong” let us be strong, let us be brave and let us choose forgiveness. I hope we all find peace, love and happiness as we strive to create a more compassionate world.
I also want to use this medium to invite my friends to take part in this initiative
