Sitting in the shady on a sunny day and looking up is the most perfect refreshment. – Jane Austen.
Recently, the weather is difficult to predict, even very difficult to understand, maybe the earth and its surroundings have started to age due to human behavior, but the funny thing is, we always say that the weather is not friendly. During this week, it has rained almost every day and the sun has changed in a short amount of time. For example, in the morning the weather is very hot and during the day heavy rain cannot be avoided. This is why my clothes are hard to dry and are always in the sun for 3 days.
This morning, there is a speck of hope that today there will be no rain. Sure enough the sun was very bright, even like summer. At that time, the scorching sun led me today to a place I had wanted to visit for a long time. Starting with accompanying my husband to deliver goods to an expedition, it turned out that the café I wanted to visit was very close to our destination.
I seduced my husband a little to take himself to the café, finally he agreed and we sat in the café for an hour. I think a husband and wife have to do it to maintain harmony in the household, amidst the demands of being a partner and filling each other out.
Teduh Coffee Shop, taken from the Indonesian Pohon teduh which, if translated into English, means Shady Tree. Shade which means refreshing, under the shade of a tree with lots of leaves that can shade us from the warm sun and heavy rain. Sure enough, this shady tree was taken from a very shady tree located right in front of the coffee shop.
The trees are lined up around this coffee shop and make the surroundings very shady. Even though the tree had a small trunk, the branches and leaves extended and could protect the cafe building. How very big the tree looks so that the cafe building looks very small.
Pohon Teduh Coffee Shop refers to a green concept, where their design and architecture make the most of nature. Examples include the trees planted around the café building, indoor and outdoor plants, and rocks such as gravel, cement and bricks which they formulate into a visual that adds to the impression of 'nature'.
When entering for the first time, we will be greeted by a door made of iron plates and walls made of a mixture of bricks, cement and sand, so simple, but this is just a fortress that will become part of this cafe. But this is not the only door, but rather a barrier, if you want to order coffee, you have to enter the indoor room first, and there you can order the coffee you like.
Uniquely, this coffee shop looks very simple, I thought it would be served by a male barista, but the two baristas here are 2 very professional women. Although women, they can make good tasting coffee. Inside the room, all the colors look unified, have the same color and don't stand out from each other, even giving the impression of being custom, like the wood used on the bar counter, the same as the color of the tables and chairs. Most of the colors consist of brown, black and white, even the same as the paint on the walls.
The indoor building seems to be an old house transformed into an aesthetic coffee shop, I can see the patterns on the walls on the side, it reminds me of my grandfather's old house, there are various old ventilation which are currently not sold in any building shop. So, of course, this indicates that this coffee shop uses an old house that can still function. I think almost all coffee shops that carry the concept of nature in the city of Medan use old houses on average. Maybe because the old house has a different vibe, the air is very different when you're inside, it feels cool and homey.
I do a little bit about the outdoor, because this space is the most dominant, the natural nuances are very obvious. With the use of iron and also cement as tables and chairs. We can see the table and chairs appear to be filled with cement and formed stones, then use strong iron as a support for the table legs which form a triangle.
Seeing that the design is very natural, they made the walls as is, painted white and then given leaves that can propagate the walls. Not only that, the rows of yellow and green lily plants lining the walls also add to the beautiful value of this cafe, even though at first I thought these were pandan leaves.
One of the natural design parts that is my favorite is water hyacinth arranged neatly in an L letter pond filled with water and a few small fish. This water hyacinth covers the small fish in the mini pond, then can minimize mosquito eggs as food. In my opinion, the use of this mini pool is very good because most of the coffee shop is outdoor and of course there will be lots of mosquitoes which will disturb the coffee shop visitors.
Apart from that, they also use lemongrass as a natural air freshener which mosquitoes don't like. There is a small container that is placed for lemongrass which has been filled with water so that the lemongrass can grow and can be used periodically, and also a very clever use of used bottles. Even though it uses a simple tool, it looks very cool and can be used functionally.
See you the next time hive friends!
