And just as the year is ending, I also end this series of posts which were the result of a tour I made through several municipalities of Aragua state. I started in the municipality Santiago Mariño, from there was born my post “This is how Santiago Mariño Square in the city of Turmero looks like”, then, I was in the municipality Sucre and from there I got the material for the post “This is Sucre Square and the San José of Cagua parish”, and finally, I photographed two squares of the municipality José Ángel Lamas, the first one I portrayed in my previous post called “Bolivar Square of Santa Cruz de Aragua and Claudio Castillo Cultural Center”, while the second is the one you will see below.
A very short distance from the Bolivar Square of Santa Cruz, is the José Ángel Lamas Square, this is perhaps the simplest of all, but it has its charm, I am struck by the width of its aisles, the amount of benches it has and the shade available in virtually its entire surface thanks to the large number of trees that are distributed throughout the square, the latter I mention is undoubtedly a constant in all the squares of Venezuela, in fact, is a feature that I think I have mentioned most of my posts. The state of maintenance of the green areas is not very optimal, but it does not cease to remain in good condition.
The central element of this square is undoubtedly the obelisk that lies in the center of it, it is not as big as it should be, but it is still attractive, I think that in a good state of maintenance and with the water fountain in operation it would change drastically its appearance. As you may have noticed, in this square there are no monuments to national heroes and that is undoubtedly a great peculiarity since that is a constant in the vast majority of squares in the country, so for me it was pleasantly surprising.
Immediately next to the square is the Diocesan Sanctuary of Our Lady of Montserrat, one of the many cathedral churches that exist in Venezuela and that are also a constant in the vast majority of squares in the country, in fact, you can confirm that if you review my previous posts, there is always a church (big or small). This sanctuary has an evident colonial style and looks in a good state of maintenance, it is white and has beige details, for example, in the side columns. It has three large wooden doors in the front and a tower with bell tower and clock. From my point of view this sanctuary does not stand out for its height, but it is quite wide.
This is the end of a one day adventure that was quite long, but that served me to know new places that were not so far from home, the scenarios that we can see are impressive if we dare to explore our surroundings with curiosity, believe me you will probably find architectural gems that you saw before, but not with the necessary attention. I hope that 2025 will be a year in which I will meet new striking structures to share with the community, I know that for that I will have to travel, but I will do it gladly. It was a pleasure to share with all of you, see you soon with much more.
