In different municipalities of my city you can find some curious structures that are intended for sports and gymnastic use, these are vertical gyms. These buildings, which have at least seven floors, are a sight to behold from a distance because of their height, they are easy to see. Each vertical gym is identical to the other, it is evident that the authorities opted for a unique model that from my inexperience looks like a prefabricated structure and easy to build. These gyms can be found not only in my city, but also all over the country, so they are undoubtedly numerous.
The one I show you today, is one that is located in the downtown area of the city of Maracay, it is located on David Concepción Avenue right next to the famous baseball stadium "José Pérez Colmenares". Its location is very easy to find precisely because it is in an iconic place, baseball is the number one sport in Venezuela and therefore most citizens know perfectly well where their team's baseball stadium is located. Another reason that makes it a gym with an excellent location is that on the other side is the regional sports institute and the David Concepción sports village.
So, one of the first elements that caught my attention of this structure is how colorful it is, in addition to the three colors of the Venezuelan flag (yellow, blue and red), we see different shades of green, yellow, blue, pink and purple. I think this makes the structure remain valid over time because it makes it look modern from a certain point of view, especially considering that it is a place for sports or gymnastics and is not a business or commercial center.
Certainly we could say that it is a structure with a simple shape, but what really catches my attention is the purpose for which it was built, since in my country they are completely unprecedented sports buildings. Something that I consider striking is how light the structure looks, in fact, I am not sure to what extent it has concrete, I would say that it is built mostly with metal beams and lightweight prefabricated materials. On the other hand, both the roof and each corner are of a gray color that contrasts quite well with the colorful walls, these seem to be of a different material, but I'm not sure.
Despite its simplicity, I thought I should share with you this structure that is replicated dozens of times throughout the country, I guess the purpose was to strengthen the sport in the region, however, so far does not seem to have the desired impact, but that's another story. This is how the vertical gyms, which stand out for their height, colors and visual impact, arrived in my city to enrich the sports architecture which, by the way, is not very advanced, but will undoubtedly contribute something in due time.
See you soon with more architecture content, it seems that in my city there is not much more to show, but surely something will come out with the days. As always it's a pleasure, Greetings!
