!Hola amigos de HIVE!

After a couple of years, I finally had the opportunity to take a walk through "Las Heroínas", one of the most popular tourist sectors of the city of Merida, Venezuela. It was really nice to walk again through its streets and admire all the good things it has to offer, especially for people who choose Merida as a destination for their vacations.

I took this short walk with my family in the morning, the streets were lonely and the sun was at its peak, getting good shots with my phone was not an easy task and most of the sites were closed, Like the cable car system and the "Las Heroínas" square that were under maintenance, but this did not prevent us from spending a very pleasant morning, (you can read more about this family outing in this post where I shared some photos), it was certainly a nice experience in this place where my son will surely form great memories.

I knew that they had made several renovations to the boulevard, since the reopening of the Mukumbary Cable Car system, but I was surprised to see so many positive changes, such as the width of the sidewalks, now, they are more comfortable and spacious, ideal for children to have a place to play and enjoy, now has some decorations on its concrete roadway, a beautiful lighting at night and some aluminum benches to rest while enjoying the architecture of the area.

HOTELS AND RESTAURANTS

The Heroines, is well known, because in this sector we can find a number of hotels and tourist inns, as well as very good restaurants, where you can taste the traditional Andean cuisine, many of these sites have a charming architectural design and as we walked many memories came to my mind, because this sector is not only attractive to tourists, it is also important in the life of the Merideños, because it is one of the meeting and recreation sites preferred by us. Some lúgares managed to amaze me again, as if it was the first time, like the picturesque facade of Cheo's Hotel.

This is a very nice place, beyond being known for its lodging service, its restaurant offers delicious pizzas, grilled or broiled pizzas, I haven't tasted them for a long time, but I can remember them and they are a real delight, besides its interior is equally charming, aesthetically pleasing and very comfortable.

The Hotel Restaurant CHEO'S, is one of the places that most caught my attention from the architectural point of view, undoubtedly steals the eyes of locals and tourists and its facade has become a great background for taking pictures. Its natural and rustic concept calls my attention, representing the typical architecture of the region, with the use of materials such as Creole clay tiles on its roofs, columns and wooden beams, with rustic finishes, the use of stone and brick in its cladding.

I think they managed to get a striking design, in keeping with the surrounding environment. Many people come to Mérida to feel tranquility, enjoy the climate and above all connect with the mountain life, with nature, and this place offers a sample in the city of the picturesque architecture present in the moorland villages, in the Mocotíes Valley or in the villages of the south.

This hotel has three levels, in each of them, there are a series of arched windows and doors, in wood with an iron frame. One of the things that catches my attention are the small balconies, where you can see the use of wood in its columns, purlins and beams, as well as in the handrail. Accompanied by a clay brick cladding. I really liked the fact that the façade depicts a wood-burning oven, built in clay, alluding to the type of gastronomy to be found in the place.

On the third level, we see some deteriorated areas, it seems that they are about to be restored, I imagine that it is time to replace part of its wood. I can't delve too much into its structural configuration, because I would like to see its interior again. According to a notice, the restaurant is open to the public from 5 pm until midnight and the lodging service offers hot water, wifi and parking.

Right next door we have, another building that I did not remember and I am curious to see what they offer, but here we can highlight the use of clay bricks as cladding.

A few steps later, we found another hotel restaurant, clad in stone, this is a type of cladding, quite used in Mérida, they use the stone slabs of the rivers, for this purpose, creating striking designs that I personally like a lot.

In addition to places with picturesque facades, there are other more traditional and modern ones, among them the Hotel Teleférico. This hotel is right in front of "Las Heroínas" square, so it must have a wonderful view. In addition, I like the irregular shapes of its windows, which form a very interesting geometric concept. I love the effect produced by the blue of the sky and the perfect contrast with the gray of the walls.

Teleférico Hotel

As you can see, it is a sector dedicated to hotels, tourism, handicraft and gastronomic commerce, where all the places have something in common, an incredible view of the highest cable car in the world (Mukumbarí), an experience that I dream of having at some point, I'm crossing my fingers that it will be in 2023. What I am sure is that I will be back soon and I will surely share with you the rest of the spaces and other goodness that this popular sector of the city of Merida has to offer.

WOW! 😲 Are we in dreamland @doriangel? The boulevard of Heroines looks surreal, probably because of its interesting mix of architectural styles and most especially its vibrant hues! The entire landscape is a peculiar fusion of eclectic design but what caught my attention the most are the rustic and colonial facades with a bright saturation of colors, reminding me of traditional Mexican architecture. 👍😊

What particular building there do you think has the most intricate process of construction and structural frameworks?

Yes, it is full of color and that architectural mix gives life to its streets and combines very well with the environment. Mexico is one of the countries that I would like to visit, but I have managed to see through photographs or on television that it has stupendous architecture. In Mexico, there is also a city called Mérida, even here there is a small square called the three Méridas, where they represent these three cities distributed in the world, which have the same name, by the way it is a bit deteriorated.

What a great question, it's hard for me to pick one, because I think they all take a lot of hard work to build. For example, Cheo's restaurant has a façade full of natural details with wooden beams and clay, achieving this must have been a great job. I am not sure how the mezzanines are built, but it seems that the entire structural framework is made of wood and that is a more complicated construction process than using steel profiles, from my point of view.

On the other hand, there are those covered in stone, this coating also takes work, looking for these slabs in the rivers, the polishing and preparation process, transportation and hauling, and the patience to install them.

And we have the most traditional, with a higher number of floors, surely an elevator inside, heavier and larger, which were surely built under the premise of a structural calculation, with more advanced and planned construction technologies, compared to the previous ones, such as the use of metallic structures and mezzanine slabs, easier to carry out, such as steel ones, but I am almost sure that more attention was paid in these from the structural and spatial point of view. It would be nice to have the opportunity and get to know its interior.

Thank you very much for the support and have a great weekend. Blessings @storiesoferne 😊

Excellent review and choice @doriangel. Your valuable insights make a lot of sense. And since you have an engineering background, it would be quite a breeze for you to decipher and explain architectural stories and technical information that you've encountered. Thank you for this incredible contribution and keep up the fascinating features of architecture. Have a safe, productive, and blessed one! 😊👍

Merida has so many beautiful places that I am sure you will have plenty of material to publish.

I love the way you describe each building, you seem to be an expert in the area of architecture and construction.

All the images are beautiful, I love the colors but this time the one I liked the most is the gray building that reflects the sky in the windows. @doriangel 🥰🤗

Yes, Merida has many good things that I would like to share and little by little I will do it, there are many places I would like to go. I have never managed to get on the cable car, for example, that is a goal for this year, I hope to materialize it, some places are difficult to access or expensive, but I would be happy if I could know all of it.

I am not an architect, but I love everything related to architecture, design and construction in general. Last year I graduated as a civil engineer and some years ago as a construction technician, but to be an expert, I still have a long way to go, I would say. Thank you very much for the compliment.

I also like that building very much precisely because of its colors and the effect that the sky has on it, together with its asymmetrical facade. Greetings and blessings @soyunasantacruz

Thanks for reminding me about the pizzeria. The last time I visited Merida was in 2014. I think I will plan another visit. One of the nights I had dinner at the pizzeria and I remember they were delicious. The area is more spacious! that's a wonder. The new hotel is much more modern than the traditional and quaint ones. Although I really like the traditional ones. Walking around there must be a delight!

Yes it is a delight, now the sidewalks are wider . The restaurant I imagine that their pizzas are still delicious, I also have some time without trying them. You are welcome, I hope you come back soon.

What a beautiful combination between its architecture, its climate and above all the tourism that Merida represents for Venezuela, excellent content appreciated friend @doriangel, Blessings!!

Yes, it is a very pleasant combination, the weather has changed a lot, but we can still enjoy those misty afternoons, although the sun is stronger than ever in the last days. Thank you very much @armasdiaze

@leidimarc

Yes, my friend, the Main Market, I haven't been there in a while, but that's also a great place to go. I quite like the architecture in this area. Thanks for visiting my post. Have a wonderful day.

The hotel there looks very old but very attractive, this is a preservation that must be maintained. I hope to go there for vacation someday :)

Yes that hotel must be quite old, but it is well preserved, I hope you can come sometime. You are always welcome.

How beautiful these photos my friend, I almost didn't know Merida when I was still living in Venezuela and I regret it, it is very beautiful.

Thank you very much for sharing these photos 🤗

I hope that when you come to visit, you can meet her. Imagine I am from here and I still have many places to visit. Thank you very much.

Through your photos, I was able to see many buildings that were built according to the rustic but attractive architectural characteristics of Las Heroínas street. Especially the shapes and designs of the clay brick walls, arched windows and doors caught my attention. It is a special advantage that the restaurants have been created in such a way as to attract the visitors, who have recovered from the delicious food.

Yes, I think they achieved a very successful concept that combines with the surrounding environment. I really like this type of wall cladding and the arched doors. Las Heroínas contrasts with the rest of the city, the center for example has a style inspired by the Spanish colonial, combined with more ordinary and common buildings. It is a great advantage for restaurants, it is very striking, especially to customers coming from other cities. Thank you very much.

What an amazing place, how much architectural beauty, thanks for sharing it with us, so we know wonderful places in the world

Excelentes fotos @doriangel. Seguimos.
