Stockholm: imposing important buildings and more (II)

in #hive-17870811 months ago

Hello archi lovers!

Once again we return to the beautiful Scandinavian capital on the shores of the Baltic Sea, Stockholm. But now we are going to walk through its streets to get closer to those most important points of interest and we realize that the architecture of this city is elegant, majestic and imposing because there are many buildings to admire and in which to recreate...

Many different buildings, palaces, churches, museums and also statues and much more that we will see here and I think in another post, because there is a lot so we start.

We can start with those impressive and beautiful classical buildings, I imagine that many of them will be neoclassical, or similar... 18th to 20th centuries, surely, although I don't know if there are reconstructions, but they look very good and give the city a wonderful, imperial air that gives us It transports you to other times without so much steel, glass and pronounced edges. There is harmony in a clean, quiet and elegant city such as its palaces, and the last one the most important one, the Royal Palace of Stockholm with big columns and flowery decorations where we can see somedays at certain hour the guard change and this is a curious show that deserves some minutes to be there.

And the Cathedral more discrete competes with the Royal Palace and many other churches (like a super red one, a yellow one and others) whose names we don't remember all but they are beautiful, although in one of these buildings we discovered a surprise...

The surprise is a colossal and striking statue of one of the best-known legends, that of Saint George and the Dragon (in a church named Storkyrkan near the Royal Palace) that is celebrated here but also in many other places, countries or cities. And we found some other sculptures or monuments in great locations that we also visited as we toured the city.

And there are also other important and relevant buildings such as the Swedish Parliament, a real imposing palace with the column facade, which we already commented on in the previous post, the so-called Riksdag, but also several museums, including the Nobel Museum (yes, the one with the prizes), or another mentioned place, the Royal Opera, and others such as a beautiful theater with exquisite golden decoration that remains over time, or a picturesque local market the Saluhall Market (Food Hall) also with dark red bricks where we can get in and try some local food, that is always a good thing to do to know better the local gastronomy.

And we are finishing our harmonious architectural route, even from a viewpoint (Katarinahissen) from above if you want, this is a very high structure! So this is an unique and inspiring walk through Stockholm where different styles from different times do not eclipse each other but complement each other, creating an atmosphere in perfect harmony with the passage of time and accompanied by history, making our visit a real and royal dream, dreamlike and full of precious styles, monuments, facades and a lot of beauty everywhere we look.

I was impressed with how the changing of the guard looks at the Royal Palace: it must be a very interesting open-air spectacle; even the bright color of the uniforms contrasts nicely with the rest of the buildings.

Oh yes it is a curious spectacle because they move in a rigid but organized way and there are some trumpets sounds around and as you say, the uniforms in a nice blue like their flag! 😉
I'm happy you like this! Happy day and thanks!

I myself like maps like this very much, they are much stronger and much more beautiful.

Oh good! Thanks!

Most welcome dear.

The architecture is really impressive @duvinca, as well as the sculpture of St. George and the dragon, which stands out for its bright golden tones, the dragon looks scary, the cathedral has a great design and I am struck by the green color of several ceilings.

Greetings!

Thanks a lot dear @belkyscabrera I'm happy you like it, the sculpture is unique and stunning! Thanks again and greetings too! Happy Weekend!

Fantastic pictures of Stockholm there, and that statue of St George and The Dragon is quite interesting as it has the face of the king who ordered it to be made, Sten Sture if memory serves me right, in the same church king Magnus Ladulås is also buried, his father Birger Jarl is the one who founded Stockholm, thanks for sharing.

Oh yeah loved that statue, it's curious because the day of the city of Barcelona is St. George too, some similar origin I do not know why... and that legend of St. George and the Dragon (San Jorge in Spanish) is quite known so it was very interesting after seeing the statue to discover all this history and all the origin is in Stockholm! And loved the city by the way 😍

The origin is not in Stockholm, it's just 2 places who adopted the same legend, I am not fully versed in it's back story though.

Hi @choogirl 👋 thanks a lot for the mention! Seen already now and very happy for it! 💖🙏😊

very cool buildings. The beautiful statues that caught my attention were the ones you said were a surprise. It turned out to be a real surprise for me because the statue depicted something like fighting with a dragon.

Yeah that statue is awesome really, huge and impressive, and it deserves attention and a space in this post!!! Probably one of the most stunning statues or different from others as well. Glad you like it! Thanks!
