I just had to take advantage of this wonderful weather to go for a walk. As so often in this case, my first stop was the river Elbe. On the Neustadt side of the Elbe in Dresden, Germany are some (formerly royal) ministries, thy are used as ministries now, too. The area is also called the government quarter. But today I'll show you not the big ministries, but some pictures of the beautiful old (and new) buildings behind them. One of them is the Dresden City Archive. I find it beautiful.
I would say, the style is Art Deco, istn´t it? but if anyone is more familiar with it, please feel free to correct me.

dieses herrlichen Wetter musste ich einfach nutzten, um einen Spaziergang zu machen. Wie oft, ging es jetzt auch als erstes zu der Elbe. Auf der Neustädter Seite der Elbe in Dresden liegen zwei (ehemals königliche) Ministerien, die auch jetzt so benutzt werden. Das Gebiet heißt Regierungsviertel. Aber heute zeige ich euch einige Bilder über die schönen alten (und neuen) Gebauten hinter denen. Einer davon ist das Dresdener Stadtarchiv. Ich finde es immer wieder wunderschön.
Den Stil würde ich als Art Deco bezeichnen, wenn jemand damit besser auskennt, kann mich gern korrigieren.
The building was erected between 1912 and 1915 for the purpose of an archive and it still functions as such, so it is open to the public. Inside, however, I found it less impressive. It can be attributed to the renovation, where modern fire protection etc. regulations had to be taken into account, as well as the necessery climatic conditions to store the old documents.
According to an information board there, the building is one of the milestones in Dresden's architectural history. It is now a listed building. With its 13 storeys and typical Chicago Bay Windows, the magazine even reminded contemporaries of an American skyscraper. It is considered the oldest reinforced concrete skeleton building in inner-city Dresden.
Das Gebäude wurde schon zum Zweck Archiv zwischen 1912 und 1915 errichtet und es funktioniert weiterhin so, damit ist öffentlich zugänglich. Innen fand ich jedoch weniger imposant, welche auf die Renovierung zurückzuführen, wo auch die moderne Brandschutz- etc.-Vorschriften berücksichtigt werden sollten, na und die notwendige klimatische Verhältnisse, um die alte Schriften aufzubewahren.
Laut ein Infotafel da zählt das Gebäude zu den Meilensteinen der Dresdner Architekturgeschichte. Inzwischen steht es unter Denkmalschutz. Mit seinen 13 Geschossen und den typischen Chicago Bay Windows erinnerte das Magazin die Zeitgenossen sogar an einen amerikanischen Wolkenkratzer. Es gilt als ältester Stahlbetonskelettbau im innerstädtischen Dresden.
There is a small exhibition in the entrance area and in the inner courtyard. The inner courtyard was roofed over during the renovation. It looks much more modern from the inside than from the outside, but it didn't bother me. The view to the outside is also so contrasting: the old iron grille on the window, the old market hall in the opposite side of the street, an the even older church tower behind it -- and the GDR prefabricated buildings to the right and left.
Im Eingangsbereich und im Innenhof, befindet sich eine kleine Ausstellung. Bei der Renovierung wurde der Innenhof überdacht. Von innen wirkt es viel moderner als von außen, aber mich hat es nicht gestört. Auch der Ausblicke ist so konträr: Das alte Eisengitter am Fenster, gegenüber die alte Markthalle, ein noch älterer Kirchenturm dahinten, und rechts- und links aber die DDR-Plattenbauten.
There are other interesting buildings and interesting combinations of different architecture- styles in the surrounding area. Here you can see a bank on the left: the building was built around 1900 in the neo-baroque style - as Villa Eschebach. To the right is the hall in Art Nouveau style - at that time it was used as a winter garden/palm garden. Today it is the customer area of the bank and is connected to the administration area by this modern connecting building. I think this triple combination is actually quite good.
In der Umgebung finden sich weitere interessante Gebäude und auch interessante Kombinationen von den unterschiedlichen Baustilen. Hier seht ihr eine Bank links: das Gebäude wurde gegen 1900 im Stil Neobarock – als Villa Eschebach gebaut. Rechtsdaneben steht die Halle in Jugendstil – damals wurde sie als Wintergarten/Palmengarten benutzt. Heute ist es der Kundenbereich der Bank und ist durch dieses monderen Verbindungsbau mit der Verwaltungsbereich verbunden. Ich finde diese Dreierkombination eigentlich ganz gut.
About 300 meters away is my favourite block on Hospitalstrasse. Again on the left you can see the older buildings, in Art Nouveau style. Do you see that screaming monster face? What's that doing on the building? I couldn't find anything about the former function of the building, the hospital was a bit further away. Maybe I should have gone into the city archive (above) to do the proper research.
Etwa 300 meter entfernt ist mein Lieblingsblock auf der Hospitalstrasse. Wieder links seht die ältere Gebäude, in Jugendstil. Seht ihr dieses schreiendes Monstergesicht? Was hat das auf dem Gebäude zu suchen??? Zu der ehemaligen Funktion des Gebäudes habe ich nichts gefunden, das Hospital sei ein bisschen weiter weg gewesen. Vielleicht hätte ich zur Recherche ins Stadtarchiv richtig reingehen müssen.

But the color (purple-grey, unfortunatly the photos are not realistic enough, maybe the pic about the staircase shows the colour) and pattern of the bricks make it an eye-catcher. It was finished about 10 years ago and it attracts me - I always have to walk/drive along it when I'm in the area. Just to let the building have an effect on me. This perspective of the stairwell isn't bad either.
Please give me some feedback on how the building looks to you. Do you think it's beautiful too? I'm actually a fan of old buildings, but I really like this modern house! I'm even fascinated by it.

Aber weiter mit der Kombination im Block: rechts ist ein Neubau, welche eigentlich ganz einfach gestaltet ist. Aber durch die Farbe (lilagrau, leider geben die Fotos es nicht gut zurück, am ehesten das Bild mit dem Treppenhaus) und Muster der Ziegelsteine wirkt es für als ein Blickfang. Es ist vor etwa 10 Jahren fertig geworden und es zieht mich an - ich muss immer entlang laufen/fahren, wenn ich in der Gegend bin. Nur einfach deswegen, damit ich das Gebäude auf mich wirken lasse. Diese Perspektive von dem Treppenhaus ist auch nicht schlecht.
Gib mir, bitte gerne eine Rückmeldung, wie das Haus auf Euch wirkt. Fintet ihr es auch schön? Ich bin eigentlich ein Altbau-Fan, aber dieses Haus gefällt mir sehr! Ich bin sogar fasziniert.
