Universidad Central de Venezuela World Heritage Site

Hello friends of Architecture and Design, receive my affectionate greetings.

Last week I visited one of the World Heritage Sites that fills many Venezuelans with pride: The Central University of Venezuela. It was declared by UNESCO in 2001.

The university city of Caracas requires a large budget to recover and maintain some areas that require intervention for their conservation.

It is contradictory that a work of this magnitude does not receive the care and attention proportional to its value. note that there are some corridors, gardens in recovery.

This alma mater has been chosen by some artists such as Chino y Nacho, Los amigos invisibles, Ozuna to record part of their videos, and also for advertising commercials.

My respects and admiration for the architect Carlos Villanueva who with his knowledge, genius and creativity gave birth to this great work of art, in which excellent professionals in the field of architecture have been formed.

He chose Venezuelan and foreign artists to accompany him in creating the design of many spaces, among the Venezuelans chosen are Mateo Manaure and Jesús Soto.

My senses were enchanted by the ceilings, gardens, murals, colors, coolness and spaciousness of this school.

What led me to make this visit?

I was curious to see if this work of art was still standing, to see how it looks today in the face of so many abrupt social and political changes that have been taking place in our country for more than 20 years.

I wanted to be filled again with the jovial energy that abounds in every space of the university. I did not have the joy of studying there, however my friends and family were educated in different schools of the UVC and I did not miss a single one of them.

A detailed tour of the UCV requires time and disposition. Its architecture is not to be missed.

I was accompanied by a great friend who was a graduate there and knows very well the corners of the university.

Guess what my first request was:

"Take me to the School of Architecture". It turned out to be a fun and safe tour, had I gone alone I am almost sure I would have gotten lost.

The gardens

The gardens throughout the university including those surrounding the School of Architecture convey calm, harmony. The Architect thought of everything, he created the most charming and ecological environment possible for the university population.

In fact, more than once I have gone to stay for a couple of hours contemplating nature in their gardens.

Fresh and illuminated environments

Its facilities are fresh and enjoy natural lighting thanks to this type of walls that divide its enclosed spaces from the surrounding gardens.

Laboratories

I felt like a paparazzi snooping around their enclosed spaces, including this workshop or laboratory that contains samples of construction materials. From the entrance you can see the banner.

A room containing sculptures and statues in the making of some busts, religious images and isolated parts of the human body also caught my attention.

Note the high ceilings, the spaciousness of the classrooms

Wood and ceramic, beautiful contrast

The main façade of the administrative offices as well as some of the classrooms are covered with wooden sheets.

The design of the ceilings gives the sensation of movement, the portholes give an air of elegance to the corridors.

Venezuelan Harry Abend made this piece in honor of maestro Villanueva.

The architecture faculty is full of works of art, many of which have been gifts from artists in honor of the architect Carlos Villanueva.

Exhibition area

As if that were not enough, that day we were able to enjoy an exhibition of national photography, excellent exhibitors and works. This plus really enriched our tour.

The artist Mauricio Donelli exhibited his Experiencia Gregory, in honor of Blessed José Gregorio, Venezuelan physician, teacher and philanthropist, known as the "meidco de los pobres".

The artist Jordi Contrera presented one of his series called: mannequin, this photograph caught my attention.

If you still do not know these facilities and have the opportunity to visit the UCV, do not hesitate for a moment to spend time in the architecture faculty, it is really a pleasure to inhabit these spaces.

Copied succesfully!

Hi @mosa71, the UCV school of architecture is beautiful, it has so many elements to observe that I would spend many hours there, the environment combines perfectly with this great structure, I loved the walls and their visual effects especially the one in the shape of a beehive, thanks for sharing such an amazing walk.

Happy night!

@belkyscabrera happy evening, I imagine the architects going crazy with happiness with those walls in the shape of a beehive at 4 pm contemplating the play of light that forms through the holes while the sun begins to hide. thanks for visiting me.🌻

Bella, the UCV is a work of art in every sense of the word. I'm glad you got to know the Faculty of Architecture. I don't know the UCV, but at the University I studied at, ULA, the Faculty of Architecture is one of the most beautiful too, because in these faculties you can breathe art everywhere.

Hello beautiful @doriangel , true, all of it is a work of Art. What a pride and what an architectural heritage they have left us, I can only imagine the quality of professionals who were part of the work crews that were part of its construction and design.
