Knowing, remembering and sharing history at La Casa de La Cultura de la Victoria.

in #hive-1787082 years ago

Greetings,

Dear friends, it has been a while since I have been here, this time I come to give you a detailed review of the Casa de la Cultura de La Victoria in Venezuela.

It happens to me as it happens to the vast majority of us who live surrounded by magnificent buildings and monuments, but as they are part of our daily lives we give little relevance..

For some time I have been working very close to the historic center of my city, La Victoria, located in the state of Aragua in Venezuela. La Victoria is a city with great historical relevance for the country since it was part of the country's independence battles when the liberator Simón Bolívar was fighting.

Around the main square of the city that as a curious fact is one of the few that is not called Plaza Bolivar but is called Plaza Ribas in honor of José Félix Ribas who won the battle of the youth in 1814.

As I said around the square is the cathedral, the yellow house, the Ribas theater (although now is only the facade), what was the royal prison of the city and the presidential residence now known as:

La Casa de la Cultura Alsacia Alvarez.

The house of culture was an early 20th century work ordered by General Francisco Linares Alcantara son of President Cipriano Castró.

The main intention of the house was the presidential residence, with the passing of the years and the governments were changing the use, there worked the Catholic school Father Machado, worked the Ribas high school and it is until the mid-sixties where the decree of the house of culture is given.

The house has some impressive details, a gable roof of bitter cane and clay tiles quite typical of the time.

The house when entering has what here we call saguan which is a hallway at the main entrance until you reach a second door that leads to the house where the first view is a central courtyard very typical of the buildings in those years to maintain a warm climate in the house.

In the central courtyard after being decreed house of culture was placed a bust in tribute to Sergio Medina who was the greatest singer of the countryside aragueñas.

The house still retains the vast majority of its original parts even though it is quite crowded since music and valet classes are held there.

I was fortunate that the person I asked for permission to take the photographs was kind enough to open a room that is not available to the public, it is a living room and dining room of the house, in this room most of the original ornaments of the house are preserved including the dining room and a pianola.

IMG_20230124_153714_222.jpg

In this complex I consider that at least 80% of the student population of the city has done some activity in it, at least to me it filled me with nostalgia last December when I attended the Christmas event of my young children because it was in the side auditorium of the house, the same where I defended my thesis to graduate from high school about 20 years ago. I think this feeling has been felt by many Victorians as I read in the facebook groups of the city when they remember the Great Alsacia Alvarez.

I would like to mention that my attachment to the city is very strong and it hurts me to see what the governmental Enter use these historical spaces for the headquarters of their departments when these places should be preserved as museums where we give guided tours to the younger generation where we can teach them about the history of the city.

To show these spaces with guided tours especially in a city like this one that is part of the history would help a lot to the tourism and its exploitation.

I hope this publication is to your liking and complies with the rules of the community below I will attach the location on the map of #pinmapple.

Saludos,

Heritage architecture will always be part and parcel of a city's cultural identity. And since you live in close proximity to La Victoria's historic district, the more these beloved landmarks are of sentimental value. 👍

Though your featured building had many lives in the past, from a presidential residence to a school, then currently a house of culture, its distinctive colonial design character is beautifully timeless - certainly a proud monument of the Victorianos. Great to have you back @soychalbed! 😊

No doubt my friend, thanks for the welcome, soon I will show you another building of the historic center until I have them all hehe

Indeed the appearance of the main entrance has been created with an interesting architectural shape. It must be said that the carvings created there also have a beautiful appearance. The shape of the small pillars between the iron fences is also interesting. The semi-circular shape carved on the door is a sign seen in Sri Lankan temples. The finish of the floor is also interesting. Seeing the wood carvings on the interior doors shows that there is a beautiful wood carving around your living area. Is my conclusion correct?

That's right my friend as it was a presidential residence they did not skimp on details and as I say in the post is a pity that its use is the one given by the government with the ability to build new buildings for their activities and turn those houses museums to exploit tourism.

Yes, that one is very beautiful and full of history

The decoration of the doors and columns is fascinating. It is a delight that you were reminded of your time as a student while your children attended an event. I think it is magnificent that the union of generations in one place.

Yes, I like it too, but I would like to see it converted into a museum where people talk about the city, thus preserving its history.

Yay! 🤗
