It's been a while since I wrote about the design and architecture of traditional houses in the archipelago. However, this time I'm back with something I want to share with you. This time, we will be travelling to Papua province. From the province of Papua, what is interesting is the traditional house of the Dani tribe. Maybe you know the igglo house model? A semi-circular house made of ice blocks?
In Indonesia there is a house with a semi-circular roof that looks like the design of an igloo. The difference is, there is no snow in Indonesia, so this is just a house made of wood, bamboo, and thatch or reeds used for the roof.
The Dani tribe in Papua has Honai. The name of their unique traditional house. It is at the Papua Province platform in Taman Mini that people can see the Honai house model.
Before entering the Honai house yard, first, visitors will be introduced to a typical bird from Papua Province. This bird is an asset of the archipelago and is highly protected because its population is almost extinct. Cendrawasih. This bird has become the mascot of the province.
On the front fence, there is a statue model of two people from the Dani tribe guarding the door. The Dani tribe is black and very traditional. They take great care to preserve their customs, culture and the nature around them. We have to thank them for indirectly guarding the state border.
If you want to see the real thing, you have to go to the BAliem valley in the Jaya Wijaya area. That's where the Dani live.
HONAI HOUSE OF THE DANI TRIBE
If you want to see the real thing, you have to go to Baliem valley in Jaya Wijaya area. Because that's where the Dani tribe lives.
As I said above. Honai is shaped like a herbal or semi-circular roof, the majority of the material is wood and the roof is made of straw or thatch. Honai is indeed the main residence that can include a place to sleep, a place to cook, and a place to receive guests at once.
However, my tour guide said, this Honai cannot last long. The age of this house is only around 4-5 years. So, it must be renewed and rebuilt again when it reaches the specified age. There is no partition in this honai house, there is only a sturdy support pole in the middle of the building.
In addition to the honai-shaped house, the Dani Tribe also has an elongated building, with the same material: wood and a thatched or thatched roof. The function of this long building is to house their livestock. All their livestock will be put into this room.
In addition, a statue of a Papuan mummy replica is also displayed here. Indeed, the Dani tribe still uses the embalming method for the corpse aghar to make the corpse intact for a very long time.
What do you think? Does Honai cuku make you feel that this is a unique design? The work of indigenous people who are creative and maintain and preserve customs and traditions.
That's all my writing about Papua house of Dani tribe. Hope you like this. Thank you and see you next time,
Hi, I am the child of the universe, I like to read books with various genres. I was born in the city of batik but can't draw batik yet. I want to be a novelist, but my works are only short poems that are included in anthology books.
