Have you ever been to Gualdo Tadino?
It is a small town in the Umbria region, in Italy. I really like visiting small villages, because they are very interesting, each with its own particularity that distinguishes them from each other.

A street in the historic center

Italy is full of medieval villages, each region has small historic centers full of treasures, that sometimes even we Italians do not know. I like to let you know them, for this reason I have been publishing on this topic for some time.
What I hate about some Italian cities is that they still circulate cars in historic centers. Crazy!!!
This thing really pisses me off!!!
But let's go on, I said....like any medieval village, Gualdo Tadino has in the center a square with the Catedreal and the Town Hall, where all the activities once took place.

The square with the two churches Il Duomo and S.Francesco

In the square there are the Romanesque and Gotic-style Cathedral dedicated to S.Benedetto, which has undergone many renovations over the centuries, only the rose window and the central portal remain authentic and are the pride of the city.
Then the church of San Francesco, which has undergone fewer restorations and is part of the Polo Museale. As you can see, its portal is not on the square but on the main street and also for this reason we can say that the church is older than the Duomo.
It was built in 1241 to house the Franciscans within the walls. Its facade presents
a large Gothic portal decorated with capitals
Inside it has a large central nave decorated with numerous frescoes

Walking through the streets of the town, we can see that there are many typical alleys of medieval villages

Somaro Museum Center of Contemporary Art

We can say that Gualdo Tadino is a culturally active city because it has the Polo Museale, a complex of several museums.
_Museo di Somaro which is a Museum of Contemporary Art, as you can see in the photo.
_The museum of the Opificio Rubboli where we find third-fired glazed ceramics.
_Rocca Flea, 13th century keep restored by Frederick II, which now houses the picture gallery and the archaeological museum
_Pietro Conti Regional Museum of Emigration
_ Cathedral of SAN.Benedetto
_ Monumental church of San Francesco

_Il museo Opificio Rubboli dove possiamo trovare ceramiche lustrate in terza cottura

Church of Santa Maria dei Recommended

There are also several churches of different styles such as the one in the photo, Chiesa di Santa Maria dei Recommended XIII century. I photographed this church because it looked very nice to me, on the upper facade located in a niche, it has a fresco depicting Santa Maria dei Recommended with her proteges inside her cloak. Below another niche with a ceramic panel by the painter Angelo Carini "Ecstasy of the Blessed Angel" with the figure of the Immaculate Conception taken by Bartolomè Esteban Murillo.
The portal with a Gothic arch and the majolica lunette in the Della Robbia style is also particular.
In front of the church there is a medieval well, with a glass and iron cover, so you can see the inside.

Gualdo Tadino is famous for its ceramics, in fact scattered around the town there are many panels like this one depicting saints.

Fountain

This town has been famous since ancient times for its mineral waters such as "Acqua Rocchetta".
We came a few weeks ago, there were still Christmas lights. My family and I left on a Saturday morning to visit an important exhibition of two American artists, Lani Irwin and her husband Alan Feltus. They met in the United States in Washington, he was a teacher and painter, she was a student and had started painting, they got married and decided to move to Italy.
Now they live here in Italy in the countryside, far from the hectic pace of the city, but at the same time they are the protagonists of contemporary American figurative painting.

Church of S.Francesco

Here in the church of S.Francesco is the exhibition of two artists, titled "You can see silence",
you can still smell the turpentine mixed with the pigments.
But, let's go in !!!

Well friends.... what to say!!! I do no know!!! Amazing!!!
Between two artists I prefer Lani, for very imaginative compositions, made with objects, human figures, toys, animals .... then the warm colors so harmonious with each other without contrasts .... beautiful !!!
But ... I also liked Alan a lot even if I find his compositions more classic, but the faces are very expressive. They look like self-portraits .... they look like two husbands and wives portraying each other .... but maybe that's just my impression.
It is the silence that speaks!!! .... it is a unique spectacle, the images speak and you viewer can only listen and contemplate.
Still images reminiscent of Metaphysics, full of magical, enigmatic dimensions that make us dream.
If you can and I turn to Italian friends, visit it because it's really worth it, it has been extended until February 27th. Bye everyone!!!

Bene amici....che dire!!! non so!!! Sorprendente!!!
Ciao a tutti!!!

Greetings @titti, a joyful 2022! Gualdo Tadino's medieval heritage is an architectural feast indeed! Not only did you and your family fully enjoy the richness of that town's cultural, historical, and design splendor, you also had unforgettable moments with the superb exhibition of those 2 renowned artists, forerunners of contemporary American figurative painting. I'm simply touched by their love story, starting out in the USA as a teacher-student tandem of art class, and then later migrating to Italy to settle down. Isn't that romantic?

With your stunning gallery of photos, I'm literally transported to that exotic location, as if also embracing similar experiences you had. The place is certainly blessed with a smorgasbord of masterpieces of architecture. Thank you very much for this incredible showcase of Gualdo Tadino plus the spectacular artworks featured here. Warm regards! 😊

Heartfelt thanks dear @storiesoferne and a joyful 2022 to you too.A wonderful exhibition, in an enchanting setting. Two artists who deserve to be seen, as I repeat I really liked the work of the woman, so imaginative !!! It was a good experience
