The Baralt Theater in the city of Maracaibo, Zulia State - Venezuela, for over 100 years has been a work of art and architectural, representing the regionality of the state of Zulia, even in his time was highly praised by many artists and architects of the country's capital Caracas, for being a great work that even in the capital did not have a great structure like the Baralt Theater.

That through many years since its construction, has gone through an infinite number of modifications, which have patterned various architectural styles. From the colonial architectural style, the republican after the independence of the country, to have present architectural foundations of styles such as neoclassical and art deco to witness its refined facade also with an arabic style, in the presence of its windows and doors.

Among the first modifications that gave rise to the design of this theater, we can mention the contribution of the Cuban architect Manuel de Obando, who structured this theater with a facade with large columns supporting a Greek pediment, but then many years later, that architectural work was demolished to give way to another design, which is the one we see today.

However, by the new century in 1932, the great contribution of the architect Leon Höet would come, who presented the design except for some modifications made after that great restoration of the theater facilities, adding those more decorative elements that can be seen on the facade of the theater.

Although this theater dates back to 1811, mainly its inauguration was in 1883, and through the years there were constant modifications. In its interior, which I did not have the opportunity to portray, said theater has 3 floor levels, in addition to a capacity for 683 people. Necessary space where many artists have performed, such as the well-known performances of Cantinflas and the last presentation of the musician Carlos Gardel, before his tragic death. The Baralt Theater was also the stage for the first audiovisual projections in Latin America, under the direction of Manuel Trujillo Durán.

I had always heard about this theater and its great patrimonial and architectural importance, and although I had visited the city of Maracaibo on several occasions, I had never witnessed this emblematic theater, and on this occasion I had the opportunity to appreciate in person how amazing this structure is, although it would have been more interesting to know its interior, but it will be pending for future visits.

This theater is an example of how representative architecture can be for the idiosyncrasy of a region or country, where the universality of art and of course of architecture are adapted and contemplated, where various styles from many places, concentrated in one place, as is the case of this theater, where its image is imposed on all visitors.

As well as its location, in the center of the city, adjacent to other architectural works of great importance for the state, such as the basilica, the legislative palace, Bolivar Square and other places, which keep an infinite number of stories, and the permanence of its facilities for the posterity of our humanity, who will know these architectural archives in physical form as heritage of the country and the world.

All photographs are my own and were taken with a Canon T3i camera.

Hello @wilfredocav, a very beautiful work of architecture and where several styles converge, I am struck by the shape of the front windows are very similar to those of the cathedrals, the colors of the paint match perfectly, thanks for sharing such beautiful photographs.

Blessings!

¡Excelentes fotos!

It's a beautiful piece of architecture, the only time I went to Maracaibo I had the opportunity to see it inside as well and it was very imposing and elegant. Excellent photos!

Hey lucky you got to see its interior, but I imagine it's totally gorgeous interior design. Greetings and thanks for the comment!

very good theater. even though it has been built for a long time but still strong.

It is that due to the modifications and also certain restorations have given that strength to the structure.
