Guardrails usually indicate that the area beyond is out of bounce – either it is private property, or the area is not safe. However, these guardrails outside the entrance to the apartment block are for seniors to hold on to for support.
On a hot afternoon, the beautiful, sharp shadows of the rails are part of the scene of the apartment block. I marvel at them as I leave or come back to the building every time.
