All of these terrifying experiences Lassie experienced on her return home. During the journey, she also met the kindness of strangers who fed, sheltered, cared for and cared for her. Lassie was, in fact, very grateful to these people, who, although they felt a deep love for her and wanted her to stay, knew instinctively that she had a purpose in life and let her go.
One of the scenes in the book that amused me the most was when Lassie, in one of her many predicaments during the journey, trying to escape from some men, ran into a courtroom, alarming everyone, then jumped out of a window and over a six-foot wall. The men chasing her thought the dog would not survive the fall and realizing their mistake, thought she was not an animal, but a vampire 😆.
The day Lassie finally made it home, fatigued, skinny and injured, I was completely moved by the scene. It was the dog's love for her family that drove her to go all those miles to get back.
