The Cornualles Ogre

Happy day everyone, I share with you a video I made in front of my literary collection, talking about a book that I lent at Riera Aguinagalde Library in Carora and that seemed remarkable in its quality, so I want to share the impression it left me. To liven up the talk about the book, I put in the background an instrumental version of the song "Lluvia" by the legendary Venezuelan rock band "La Misma Gente". Below I leave what I say in the video, written in both English and Spanish, I hope you like it.

Hello friends how are you? For those who do not know me, I am an illustrator, plastic artist, I also like to write stories and I am doing a research on children's books, which I really like to read very much. Today I want to talk to you about a novel that I lent at the Riera Aguinagalde library in Carora, this one is called “El Ogre de Cornualles” by Miguel Ángel Pacheco. It is quite long for a children's book, it is a 94-page novel, it was written and drawn by the same person, which really caught my attention.

The Book has a great influence on The Thousand and One Nights, a book in which Scheherazade had to entertain her captor so he does not kill her, she did this by telling him a story but without the ending until next day and thus she ensured he would not kill her. The protagonist of this story is a boy, his parents go on a trip and leave him in the care of a man, but this man turns out to be an ogre who tells him that he is going to eat him.

So that he doesn't eat him, the boy tells the ogre that he is going to tell him a story about an ogre, so the novel has several stories within the story, in this it is also very similar to Don Quixote, because Don Quixote is also a work that has several stories within its narrative.

For a children's novel, this one really left me quite surprised by the level of emotion that the plot has, each story of ogres (there are five in total) has an incredible meaning that they don't tell you so obviously, but through very rich metaphors. For example, I remember one Ogre who had learned to talk to the clouds, he was an ogre who lived in Tibet, he used the clouds to create floods and make the desert bloom, after the desert bloomed he would sell these lands at very high prices to get rich. When the ogre left, it no longer rained and the people who lived on those lands became poorer.

It has several stories of this type with an incredible level of quality where the child tells these stories to the ogre and he falls asleep without hearing the end, the ogre is always in doubt and does not finish eating the child. While the boy tells him the stories, he prepares vegan recipes for the Ogre to become a Vegetarian. I don't want to tell you the ending, but it is really amazing.

The illustrations remind me a lot of Bosch's paintings, especially there is an incredible illustration in which many faces appear that reminds me one of his painting, Jesus Christ surrounded by characters who are about to crucify him.

Sort:

as an incredible meaning that they don't tell you so obviously, but through very rich metaphors.

That's the reason why I like reading children literature. Many of these books are rich in metaphors when we read it as an adult. One of the thing that seem to enable such is because the writers itself are adult. Imagine if children books were written by children.

Ohg yes, children have an amazing imagination, so much it could be great inspiration for art. Would be great to help them make books, comics or small storys and publish them. Is important to never loose our inner creative child :D

They literally have attempted my murder and are trying to kill me with V2K and RNM. Five years this has been happening to me, it started here, around people that are still here. Homeland security has done nothing at all, they are not here to protect us. Dont we pay them to stop shit like this? The NSA, CIA, FBI, Police and our Government has done nothing. Just like they did with the Havana Syndrome, nothing. Patriot Act my ass. The American government is completely incompetent. The NSA should be taken over by the military and contained Immediately for investigation. I bet we can get to the sources of V2K and RNM then. https://ecency.com/fyrstikken/@fairandbalanced/i-am-the-only-motherfucker-on-the-internet-pointing-to-a-direct-source-for-voice-to-skull-electronic-terrorism ..... https://ecency.com/gangstalking/@acousticpulses/electronic-terrorism-and-gaslighting--if-you-downvote-this-post-you-are-part-of-the-problem if you run into one of them you may want to immediately shoot them in the face. 187, annihilate, asphyxiate, assassinate, behead, bleed, bludgeon, boil, bomb, bone, burn, bury, butcher, cap, casket, choke, chop, club, crucify, crush, curb, decapitate, decimate, deflesh, demolish, destroy, devein, disembowel, dismember, drown, electrocute, eliminate, end, euthanize, eviscerate, execute, explode, exterminate, extinguish, finish, fry, grind, guillotine, gut, hack, hang, hit, ice, implode, incinerate, kill, liquidate, lynch, massacre, maul, microwave, mutilate, neutralize, obliterate, off, pop, poison, punnish, quarter, ruin, shank, shock, shoot, shred, skin, slay, slaughter, smoke, smother, snipe, snuff, squish, stab, strangle, stone, suffocate, suicide, SWAT, swing, terminate, torture, terrorize, whack, waste, wreck.
