Hi, Good day to everyone in this community. Am Goodness by name but would prefer to be called Trickseey. Am now here and I would love to know more about the community. I will be talking about my preference with novels today and poetry later.
I love the Xianxia novels (they are chinese novels) and the type of Chinese novels i like are called Wuxia meaning martial heroes. This type of novel are mainly action, mature, romance and martial arts in genre. It depicts the growth of a martial artist who grows to become (one of) the strongest in that world. For a novel to be Wuxia, it has to fulfill some criteria some of which are stated below:
- The time of the novel must be hundreds/thousands of years past, especially during the Yuan dynasty.
- The setting of the novel is mainland china, though they later venture into foreign land/world.
- Guns are not used here, they literally don't exist yet. The main weapons are swords and sabres, with others including the lance, the bow and arrows, whips, e.t.c.
- Major emphasis is based upon martial prowess, (secret) cultivation manuals, e.t.c.
- Also, the novels need to show the relationship between teacher/master and student.
the novel is usually about the lead who starts the journey of martial cultivation (which is the gaining of strength). The lead has to face many challenges along this road as the novels are usually based on the law of the Jungle- The survival of the fittest. The strong preys on the weak. Here, one can only survive either by growing strong or by having a strong backer. Good or bad is decided by strength. Killings here are done in tens of thousands. The lead grows stronger with the aim to protect their loved ones and to be able to decide their fate. They are usually accompanied by beauty(ies) as wives as its considered stupid to have 1 wife. The main character cant do this alone but need the help of others which can come in form of opportunities, elders and "true friends".
Yes, true friends because even in this world where we live, some people will choose to become your friend only when they see they can get something in return for the friendship. This set of people don't care to help on a normal basis, but because they know you're important, they will try all their best to help you when you're in dire straits knowing fully well that even without their help, you can still overcome the difficulties though not easily.
The true friends are the ones who were with you before getting strong and even when you have made it, you can still nave true friends but its not easily made as "You get more flies with honey than with vinegar". Most people who are attracted to you after you made it, comes for what they can get out of you. True friends go through thick and thin with you, even if it costs their lives.
The third kind of people are those who don't care about morality. All that they know is to survive, no matter what, they can serve you today, and as long as they're promised something or threatened with death, they can kill you the next day, even if you saved their family from destruction. This set of people are the hardest to guard against and they can't be killed easily but their end is usually the most miserable.
One thing i noticed that the novels have in common is the fact that they usually start with the death of two people. Yes, two people from different worlds; the first world which is Earth and the other world which is the world where the novel is based upon. What happens upon their death is "transmigration" of the soul. The soul of the Earthling moves into the body of the extraterrestrial. One key factor is that the new man (the soul of earthling + body of the extraterrestrial) is not bound by the rules of that world since the soul isnt of that world. I will be reviewing some of the novels i have read and will be giving summary on them. I hope you guys will like it.
