Having the ability to speak more than one language is a gift. I won't say I envy others who can do this but I wish it was meee😭. I have a friend who fluently speaks the three(3) major languages in Nigeria and she can also speak Efik, like how long did it take you to learn all this when you're just 21?. I think some persons are gifted with the ability of learning very fast and adapting easily to new cultures.
TWO TIMES PEOPLE HAVE BEEN SAVES BY BEING MULTILINGUAL
The first incident happened to my hair stylist and a friend. She's an igbo lady who's mum is Efik and so, she was opportuned to speak and understand both igbo and Efik fluently. According to her, she went for an event, a traditional marriage to be precised at Akwa-ibom state and she was one of the ashoebi's. At the end of the event, it was already too late for her go travel back to River's State at that hour so, she decided to lodge in a hotel but didn't know anywhere around.
She saw a group of guys (3 guys) and decided to ask them if they knew any hotel around and one of them offered to show her the place but first of all, they asked if she was an Indigene of the place and she said no, that she only came for an event. At that moment, one of them said she's a fresh meat (in their Efik language) and the guys who offered to help should take her to his house and 3 of them should enjoy themselves. She understood immediately and told them to please wait for her here that it seems she forgot her purse at the event arena and that was how she ran away for her life. Imagine what would have been the outcome if she couldn't understand that language? 🤷🏼♀️
I once wrote on wishing to learn French, yeah... I'm working on that....it ain't easy but I'm in love so what can I do?. Well, even if I don't know any extra international language except from English, I speak igbo😌. At least I'm not totally dealt with...lol
THE SECOND INCIDENT
It's a natural phenomenon that when you see someone who speaks same language you speak, it's easier to help, trust and assist them. Looking at Nigeria for example, when you call an Hausa man who sells yam to sell for you, he can tell you 1500 for one but once you speak Hausa to him, there's this connection and love immediately and he'll reduce it to 800 just for speaking his language.
My lecturer who speaks French told us a story of when she traveled to France for a meeting and lost her bag at the airport so, she lost the address given to her for the meeting and was stranded. At first, she said she felt like crying because even her cloths and address for a meeting that was to start soon was in that bag. But she was lucky to remember the name of the hotel she was asked to go to so, she fluently communicated with a young lady there and the lady wrote down how it'll be easier for her to get to the hotel and that was how she was able to get there and was available for a meeting representing the school.
I'll sure love to learn more languages if I'm chanced to... it's just beautiful and the pleasure that comes with it is amazing. Imagine knowing like 10 languages? You can just switched (like a chameleon) at any moment 😹😹
Thanks for reading to the end guys, i appreciate ☺️♥️ but I'll love to know how many languages you're fluent in and which language you'll love to learn too....do well to share in the comment section ♥️
