Guten Tag!
There have been two things I have been committed to this year. The first is airdrop hunting and the other is learning German. The latter has been more fruiful.
When I started learning German early this year, I never thought it would be something I would enjoy. It was a necessity because I needed to write my A1 exam as part of my migration requirment. Now it is more of an enjoyable routine.
One of the enjoyable thing about learning a new language is seeing the imporvement over time. I remember when I started I could not make sense of the langauage. Now, I am proud to say I can make meaningul statements and read in German - Beginner level anyway.
Duolingo has been my daily guide. Although it doesn't provide me with indepth understanding of the language (that I had to source through other courses and youtube channels), but it has kept me consistent and competitve.
One of my biggest challenges learning German was finding a curriculum. As I said earlier, Duolingo did offer me structure but it wasn't indepth. I learnt most of the important things through youtube channles like 'Easy German' and free courses on German.
After finding different study/learning materials, I was faced with the task of following through. At a point I had over a 100 videos downloaded on youtube, most of which I havent gone through. So it is still a challenge
Fortunately (and unfortunately) I dont have to take my A1 exam soon. So that has relieved me of the pressure of writing the exam (for now). Now, I just have to focus on learning more organically.
One of the major things I need to focus more on in the next few months is my listening skill. I can comfortably read and write basic sentences in Germen but listening has been a bit difficult. To solve this problem I have been listening to more German music and podcast.
I also want to be able to speak more fluent basic German. This would be easier when I migrate, since I will be forced to interact with people in German. So it is not much of a problem as listening.
In conclusion, I am happy with my progress and I am lookong forward to learning more and also absorbing the culture of the German people. Tschüss!
