Hello everyone,
I've been away playing chess. I know I did say I'd write everyday and be consistent. But yeah, I've missed a couple of days already and I won't be getting the Hivebuzz badge this month again. It felt so good last month, writing everyday and finally getting the Monthly Author's badge. It felt like completing a game because I was really determined to get it.
Do you take activities on Hive as a game?
I'm curious, I know geekgirl once gave that as a short "newbie advice" - What's your take on that.
African Time
Have you heard the phrase "African time" - It's a way to criticize Africans because of our lateness in appointments, meetings and events.
I probably would have written about the tournament if I knew I'd be playing. I didn't because I was invited a day to the supposed tournament.
It's only in Africa where players are invited a day to the tournament. It's a shame because this happens frequently and the term "African time" which is pejorative would always stick to us. Yeah, we are also known for othe negatives such as fraud, cybercrime but it sucks that we are usually far from respecting TIME
I went for the tournament which I didn't complete - I did a Magnus Carlsen :) - However the tournament cost me alot including my precious Hivebuzz badge!
Great Things happen From Little Beginnings
It was Manuel Corrazari that said "the way to change the entire world starts with a small baby step".
For the last few days, I've been thinking in this direction. One main reason is the Hive-naija community. I've been a big fan wanting to help others. Maybe I can't change the world(I doubt anyone can) but I believe in trying and by that I mean starting with the little.
It's no news that I started a engagement initiative for my country people back in November and that has grown to something I never envisaged. Honestly, I didn't think of 400+ comments every week. Neither did I think of seeing people create time to discuss things with each other. It all started with a small step.
Two days ago, I created a new account to help foster this relationships and for us to discuss how to proceed. I've seen alot of comments and suggestions which I intend to follow. Another thing is we started without any support, but now we do have one which screams growth!
Introducing @Sam's Hangout | Promotion For Nigerians on Hive: Engagement & Support
In Conclusion...
Yup, I've been away playing chess again. I would write an entirely different post for that.
I'm just supper happy to look back and reflect on how much growth as happened plus the ideas rolling out for the future.
It's tough in Nigeria at the moment, Federal universities are on strike which means most students have been home for months. I've onboarded a couple of them and Hive really helps alot. I'm really looking forward to seeing alot of Nigerians happier on Hive.
I am @samostically,I love to talk and write about chess because i benefited alot from playing chess. sometimes i share my thoughts on life in general and i write about my love for hive!
I love to engage with others and i love communication. I believe life is all about staying happy and maintaining peace.
