Hi everyone, how are you all doing. This is supposed to be my entry for @selfhelp4trolls 'What is your relationship with animals' cross culture question, and I will be using some of the prompts in his posts to answer mine. Yeah, I'm several days late and I'm not supposed to do this, but I have a coconut head, and I will do it.
**Do you like animals? Why or Why not?**
Yeah, I love animals to an extent. Not loved enough to place their lives above humans but yeah, I love animals. I dragons and horses (Cinderella fantasy), I love rabbits, I love tabby cats and yeah, I love dogs very much. I never owned one tho, because I can't handle the responsibility of a dog at the moment, but I play with dogs in my neighborhood a lot. Cute dogs only tho
Even though animal cruelty is very common in my region, I find it disturbing. And yeah again, I love tigers.
**Are animals respected or looked down upon in your culture?**
In recent times, lot of people in my culture have changed their views on animals as an item just for consumption and use. Yeah, we even have a few vegetarian here and there and animals advocates. People in my country eat every thing possible, from the rarest of sea animals to land animals on the verge of extinction. The concern of the whites on saving animals does not rub off on most of us here, in Nigeria. So yeah, animal cruelty still exist in my culture.
**What wild animals can be found where you live (or in your hometown)?**
I stay in Mushin, a suburban area in Lagos state. It is very rare to see wild animals here.
**Are any animals considered good luck or bad luck in your culture?**
Nigerians are largely superstitious, religious and spiritual. There are quite some animals thats symbolize good or evil, varying among the several cultures and tribes in Nigeria. An owl hooting at night is largely associated with an impeding doom, a fatality. The owl is dreaded in Nigeria and is considered spiritual. Doves are considered as birds that symbolizes peace, purity and fresh start. This belief is largely perpetuated by Christians, after the story of Noah in the bible who released doves before stepping down from the ark. Animals like cats, snakes, spiders, vultures are considered ominous.
**Do any animals have a specific meaning in your culture?**
Yeah, horses are considered royalty. Owls means death.
This is the end of my discourse. Thank you .
