I've finally done it, I've attended my first "proper" rave, I am nearing 50 years now, and way back in my teens I loved to listen to the old breakbeat hardcore tracks that hit the UK by storm, it was a predecessor of jungle music as well as drum and bass, and I loved this sort of music, one of the reasons I think is that it a lot of it was produced on the old Commodore Amiga computers, not forgetting as well that this kind of music was that got me into music production, so I do owe a lot to hardcore music.
So why was it my first proper rave?
(Baby D)
Well, most of the raves were down south and I was way too young to get there, I got into the rave scene around 14-15 years old, so I couldn't drive or anything as I was way too young, however it didn't stop me enjoying the music, but was excellent was hearing those classic tunes you remember from your childhood being played on a massive sound system, especially with the sub basses vibrating through your body.
The rave was brilliant, when we got there at first we did have our reservations, they started it outside and they wasn't even playing music we knew, we were told the inside venue started at 4pm, so we went around Sheffield before heading back at 4, but when we got back at 4pm, it was fantastic.
(Shades Of Rhythm)
(Rozalla)
(Slipmatt & MC Majika)
As well as DJ Sets, the rave also had some top bands on from back in the day, starting with the fantastic Baby D, Altern-8 did a DJ Set & so did Slipmatt (Slipmatt played some right tunes!!), we also had Shades Of Rhythm playing live and no doubt one that everyone one has heard of Rozalla, such a fantastic line up, there were even more dj's etc on the show that I care to remember, the rave was certainly 20 quid well spent.
I didn't plan on taking many pictures or do many videos, but I wanted to try out my new phone, so I shot a few little snips and also played with the slow motion, here's a little video that I did of the day.
I hope you've enjoyed reading about my weekend adventtures, I do have a holiday coming up in Norfolk, so looking forward to some photography.
For now, have a great day.
All the best :-)
