After years and years of procrastination and debate, I finally pulled the trigger on a new gaming PC a few weeks ago. There were several factors that led to this decision. For one, I was working off of an older laptop that was just not cutting it anymore and that had slowed to a frustrating pace to even try to blog on. I had saved up some crypto, so it would not be coming out of my household budget (the wife loved this lolol). Another factor was my eager anticipation of PsyberX dropping in the not-too-distant-future and I wanted to be prepared with enough power to be able to handle a FPS of its caliber. Finally, I had recently purchased an Oculus Quest 2 and wanted a PC that could be able to link it to, in order to greatly expand the amount of game titles I had access to. I had also been talking to @raymondspeaks and watching him play Star Citizen in the Mancave discord and was eager to give it a try with him as well.
I am an extremely slow shopper and this purchase was no different as I poured through days and days of data and comparisons to make sure I was going to get the best bang for my buck. I normally do most of my online tech buying through Best Buy or Amazon, but I was surprised to find that Newegg had much better deals on gaming PCs than anyone else online.
In the end, I my final decision was to go with a MSI Gaming Desktop Aegis R 10SD-053US Intel Core i7 10th Gen 10700F (2.90GHz) 16GB DDR4 1 TB SSD NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER Windows 10 Home 64-bit It ended up running me about $1200 US, but I figured this would work for just about anything I could throw at it for a couple of years at least. As a bonus that I didn't know at the time, it came with a free gaming mouse and keyboard....so there are two things I don't have to buy lololol
An additional element that factored into my purchase was the future desire to potentially create a podcast or to stream games and I knew this machine would be able to keep pace without too much effort.
So far, this PC has exceeded all my expectations. The first game I bought was No Man's Sky and I am greatly enjoying it. I plan to buy Star Citizen and also to load my Win version of Ark to it in the very near future. Using my Oculus tethered to the PC wirelessly has been a dream and greatly expanded the game catalog I have access to now.
The only thing I need now is for the amazing team at @psyber-x to drop this banger they are working on so I can see my PC smoking in the pale moon light as I destroy all who cross my path! lololol
The ordering, customer service, and shipping with Newegg was phenomenal and I would recommend them to anyone who may be looking for an online place to get electronics,
