Hamilton Street Art

in #hive-1847844 days ago

Back in the summer I took a walk around the city of Hamilton Ontario Canada and came across several large street art murals. There is a lot of street art sprinkled around the city, both commissioned works and not. This is just a small sample size of whats actually out there. I'm quite sure that all of these (or most) were comissioned as all of them were spotted in the downtown core of the city on main streets. All are within walking distance of each other so I was able to see them all during a single walk. Let's check them out!

The first one is a large bird signed by an artist named Scottanddestroy. It's located on the exterior of a parking garage in the city center.

When I look at the zoomed in version it looks like the artist hid some graffiti style wording in the body. Its camoflaged in the birds feathers. I don't know what it says but it looks something like Withering Destiny to me, or something like that. Who knows really? It could say anything, or nothing at all, I suppose.

The next piece was done by an artist named Muhammad Quin. It depicts three woman of varying ethnic backgrounds.

It's very colorful with some nice contrast. I like it and think its a decent work of art.

The next one is quirky and fun. It's a woman in her bathrobe working on her pickleball swing.

I couldn't see a signature on it so I don't know who the artist is. There was a plaque hanging beside it though, which probably means that it was comissioned and the information board probably tells more about the artist and design. I didn't get close enough that day to read it.

The next one is a little different but I like it quite a bit. It's an interesting use of the space, has movement to it and has a sort of interactive quality about it. It was a comissioned piece by Coloma.ca. I don't know who that is or what they do but it sounds like a company to me.

This one is very fitting for the city. Hamilton is famously home to a steel plant and the city has always been known as a blue collar, middle class city. This image of two working men is very on brand if you ask me.

The next one is another comissioned piece with a plaque that I didn't read and therefore do not know the artist.

It has a sort of a new age, maybe voodoo - medicine doctor look about it.

The next one is more your typical graffiti street art style. Bright and colorful with a mishmash of seemingly random unrelated elements that somehow come together to make an interesting and beautiful work of art.

A gold baby, a tiger, a snail walking across a doll faced woman. It's impressive how the artist created metalic, shiny and wet looking elements in the piece. The artist is unknown to me. I couldn't find a signature from my vantage point.

The last one is a bit worn but interesting nonetheless. It looks like someone dancing in a dark street, maybe in the rain or perhaps jumping in a puddle. The artist is unknown. There was a QR code that could be scanned to find out more but I didn't scan it. I don't know if this one would have been comissioned - it's hard to tell.

Well thats all I have to show you for now. Which one was your favorite? Let me know in the comments.

Bye!
