I don't know who came up with the idea to decorate transformer boxes in this way. But I definitely like the result. I took all these photos during a walk through the park of the Polytechnic University. The university was founded in the late XIX century and occupies a vast space on the former outskirts of the city.
The academic buildings and laboratories are surrounded by a beautiful park. Some buildings of the university are architecturally interesting, others look more simple and utilitarian. But one can hardly imagine a simpler and more typical building than a transformer box. Nevertheless, a way has been found to embellish these buildings and make the landscape of the park more diverse. Judging by the style of the works, they were done by different artists, but I could not find exact information about it.
Portraits of famous scientists and quotes from their works became the theme for the design of transformer boxes. Among the portraits of scientists was a portrait of Emperor Peter the Great with his famous phrase "If you have a desire, there are a thousand ways; if you don't have a desire, there are a thousand reasons!". I don't know how adequately I managed to translate this phrase... It is about the fact that with desire one can find many ways to solve even a very difficult problem, and without desire it is also easy to find many reasons to do nothing.
Among these quotes I particularly like the words of Pyotr Kapitsa, Soviet physicist and Nobel Prize winner: "Science should be fun, exciting and easy. So should be scientists".
